With 1100 miles on the clock my 05 is averaging 40mpg under normal circumstances (back and forth to work and so forth. No highway or race miles) Generally the light is coming on at about 135-140 miles and I've been filling up with around 3.5 gallons.

The milage was significantly worse before the first service at 800 miles. I saw milage in the 25 to 29 mpg.

Pay no attention to the milage indicator on your trip computer until after your first service! Mine told me I was getting 56mpg, when in fact I was getting about 28. After the first service I've been getting 40, and it's been telling me I am getting 42. Close enough.

I dunno, it seems to me that Jeffro shouldnt be getting the low mileage that he is. Right off the bat I've been getting around 120 miles or so between fill ups. 60-ish MPG is way off. Break in period or no. Have it checked by yer deelah.

I was kinda being facetious about the short shifting comment Pay no attention to my foolishness

I can get about the same after the light comes on, prob 3.2-3.5 gallons. I guess its a warning light warning you that you have some time before the next warning

Question tho - what are they doing for the first service on this bike that changed your mileage? Normally, its just an oil change and a wrench test Am I missing something?

The dumbass dealer gave me a set of manuals from about 3 years ago, so I am piecing together info until they can get me the right copy. What is the first service interval for this bike? 500? 600? 1000?

First service is at 800km or 500 miles. It's just an oil/filter change and a basic check of brakes, fluids, leaks.

The manual says the light should come on when there's about 4 L left in the tank. I've found on previous Triumphs (Sprint ST, Daytona 955i) that this varies a bit from bike to bike, but is pretty consistent for a particular bike. Once you learn when your particular bike's light comes on, it's pretty reliable - apart from the effect of different loading and suspension settings. eg. I find if you're loaded up at the back, the light will come on sooner.

Jeffro232 - I'd say something is happening with the breather on your tank - there shouldn't be any dripping through the overflow hose. The mpg you're getting does seem very low. I guess initial fuel consumption should be a bit higher than normal as things are still tight, but it shouldn't be that dramatic.

BTW - is anyone planning on a riding trip to New Zealand anytime? Happy to provide info or ride suggestions.

Hey Backroads,

When did you get your 05? We are still waiting for the first shipment here in Melbourne! Mine is due June 15. The waiting is killing me. I am hoping to bring my bike across the pond with Dave Milligan (Get Routed) next February. I want to tour, especially the South Island. it would be good to catch up for a ride. I'll keep in touch.

I've been getting a little over 40 MPG depending on how hard I push it while riding. The computer is still reporting about 10 MPG higher than what I'm actually getting. I'm at 1200+ miles
