Married man - so I'm talking about the bike here - in case my wife reads replies!

Just bought an 03 Speed Triple with triumph hi level exhaust, 8k on the clock. I've had some problems coming out of bends and even pulling away, where if the revs are under 3k, the bike 'dies'. Sometimes, it feels like dodgy plugs/ignition or fuel starvation.

This is the first efi bike I've had and although I didn't expect it to pull hard from that low down, I didnt expect it to give up completely!

I was told that the correct map was loaded and checked at a recent service. Do all bikes with high level exhaust suffer from this?

Any feedback or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Mikki

I have a 2001 S3 with about 8k miles and the Triumph aftermarket high carbon silencer and am experiencing a similar problem. The bike did not want to idle, without throttle input, and was difficult to pull from a standstill, without feathering the clutch. The local dealer loaded a different program for the fuel injection, which fixed the idle and off-the-line problem, but other problems still exist (or perhaps got worse). After the bike is warmed up (15-20 minutes) and at a partial throttle position, the bike caughs and sputters, as though the ignition is intermittently cutting out, or the fuel is being cut off (similar sensation to running out of gas). I don't know if this is a fuel problem (clogged gas filter?) an ignition problem (broken wire or problem with spark plug) or is simply running the wrong ignition software. Has anyone had any similar experience, and if so, how have you sorted the problem?

I have an '01 with a TBR can, the timing advanced 5 degrees, and the high mount tune. My bike pulls cleanly from 2500 rpm. Get a different map put in, or find a friend with a Tuneboy, and hopefully you can get it running right.

I'm also having the same problem with bogging off idle in first gear. If I ease the clutch out it is fine but if I just let the bike slow down to an almost stop with the throttle closed in first gear with the clutch out and then roll the throttle open very quickly the bike flutters for about 1 second then kicks in. I just had the map installed for the Triumph High Mount. Should the trouble shooting of why this is happening be covered under my warranty?....don't really want to pay the dealer anymore to make Triumph accessories work on my bike.

My 04 just started this trouble 3 weeks ago. I won't agree that it's a map problem with mine(bone stock). Something is wrong. It used to pull VERY strong from idle and lift the front wheel everytime with no clutch. Now it won't rev off idle without coughing. It tries to stall when taking off from red-lights. Won't begin to lift the wheel...

Had it to my dealer a week ago. They said they checked everything, then put the latest and greatest map in it. Runs like garbage until over 3500 rpm. They told me to take it home and wait until they heard from Triumph. It almost died for 1/8 mile down the road leaving the dealership(on a very busy 4 lane). I called today(never got a phone call back from them, as promised) and they said Triumph told them to do everything they already did. So now I have to wait another 2 weeks to get it back in their busy shop.

I haven't touched it since I brought it home last week. I'm afraid I'll kick it off it's stand... :hammer:

I pray that it's fixed soon, was planning on 2 August Raids... but who knows

Mikki, If you find a fix for yours, PLEASE pass on some info, Thanks!

Something completely independent of your problem, but maybe it's a place to look? On my 636 I started having similar idle issues, bike was pulling strangely down low - ended up being a banged up MAP sensor.

Make sure there is no water around the plugs!! The port hole for the plugs will retain water and cause the kinds of symptoms you guys are discussing.............. hesitation, stalling etc...........

I found this out from my mech when i told him how I cleaned the bike - he said be careful not to get water around the plugs - he said it was a common prob for those who rode in the rain as well!!!

Good Luck guys,

I had the same problem with my '03 and found that the plugs were very corroded due to water sitting in the holes. The mech. slathered some dialectric grease in there with the new plugs and it has been great since. My bike has the stock can and tune and right at 20,000 miles. Unitl last week it was parked on the street so water was unavoidable.
