The Harley Davidson mindset is something I never will understand. Why anyone would put up with the hassle of their dealerships, the overpriced mechanical problems of their antique technology, and the "are you one of us?" mentality of the other people who ride is baffling.

I've heard horror stories about HOG meetings (Harley Owners Group) but I can say with pride that I have never met anyone who is anything but nice at our RAT meetings. When people show up on other brands they are treated with respect, even if it's (GASP!) a HD.

After our last meeting (Saturday) most of us stopped by the shop for a while. I counted 39 triumphs in the lot, and maybe 7 other bikes including a Sportster and a Ducati. Nice guys, both of them. When I left about three hours later there were still people milling around visiting and enjoying themselves.

What a great place!

The story on the Buell Blast really worries me. And I never understood why they never took the Britten road back in the 90's or provide the innovation this guy produces to another level. They just keep on forcing the air-cooled lump in there. Too heavy, not designed for this sort of bike.

On the other hand, and having never owned a Harley, truthfully, you see a lot of guys logging thousands of miles on their hogs. On Ebay, the average highest mileage of bikes you see are BMW's and Harleys. So if the engine is being used for the kind of bike it's designed for, it seems to work quite OK...

I was at a bike dealership one day that sold all the Jap brands plus Triumph. They talked me into a demo ride on a Daytona. They was some Discussion among different sales people about another customer being interested in buy the bike. It was decided that no the customer wanted another bike.
So I took the bike out for a hour test ride and decided on the way back to stop and put some gas in it as they had been so nice to let me ride it.
As I was filling up the bike at a gas station near the dealership one of the sales men rode up and told me they were looking me and get the bike back Quick.
It turns out that the other customer wanted the bike I was riding and they had him in the back room stalling him waiting for me to bring the bike back.
Then the general manage comes out and gives me a hard time because I didn't want to buy a bike from them that day. He had the balls to say I just wanted to play with his toys. He was RIGHT. I find it hard to refuse a ride when it is offered.
