I just finished cutting a door in the base of my '01 S3 seat cowl to create much needed storage space. I used 2 hinges, 11 hex head bolts with nuts, and 3 screen door retainers. If anyone is interested in doing it., I will post pics and instructions.

Good job. I'd ben interested too.

I just cut most of mine out, leaving a bigger space. It works but as you can imagine it isn't very secure under there.

OK, I posted the pics in Vol.2 Page 5, as I forget how to get pics here. Here's how to do it.1. Seperate the base from the cowl. 2. Locate the round dots in the front and back of the underside.3. Use a small straight edge to intersect the circles with a pencil line, so you create an expanding rectangle like in the pics. Take a SHARP utility knife and using the straight edge follow the pencil lines. It took me over an hour to carefully keep cutting the linesuntil they were deep. Then I took a blowtorch lighter and heated the blade to make the final cuts. Take your time! Parts needed: 2 -1" brass or zinc plated hinges. 11 small bolts and nuts (SS). I used hex head 1/2 inch. 3 nylon screen door holders. The kind you use to secure the screen. After you get the door cut out, you will have to carve and sand the plastic so the door will open cleanly. Fussy job. Line the hinges up at the wide end, mark and drill. I made slots to adjust. If you look at the pics, you will see where to put 2 of the door things, to keep the door from falling in, and the other to keep it closed. If I can do it, so can you. Good luck! :hammer:

Darn! Unfortunately, the cowl on my '03 is much different underneath, and does not have that smooth surface. There's a very uneven 'structure' under the cowl that will require cutting-out to make some room. Oh well, time to warm up the Dremel!
