Exclamation Firefox not responding here

has anyone else had problems with browser freeze up on this website ? My computer locks up when I use Firefox, and try to read posts on this site. Explorer seems to work fine.

Firefox is OK here. You could try upgrading your Flash plugin, I'd put my money on that being the problem. Or better yet, uninstall it (flash that is, not firefox), reboot and re-install.

foxy

Sometimes firefox will time out you on up or down loads....may be the case....
don't sweat it but if it keeps happening go to your computer and ask for a maintenance icon, use that to clean up your hard drive that might help you some.

Firefox on this site is the preferred browser, it works much faster on this type of site than does IE.

I often compare both and it really is no contest, FF is superior.

You need to designate FF as your first choice browser, if it's hanging up on you it's not FF that's the problem. Look also at your firewall, it may be restricting access.

(I've moved the thread from BHO to this forum where such discussions can get a better airing.
I've left a link !)

I've been having trouble with both Firefox and Safari the last week or so too. Done all the recent updates, but nothing's helped. Although, knock on wood, it hasn't locked up today so far.

*edit* yeah, it just locked up again.

New firewall

We had a pretty big virus attack at work so switched vendors. The new firewall blocks all Facebook, outside email programs, etc... and for some reason cause this website to freeze up. I don't have the problem at home running McAfee. So could be your virus, or firewall causing problems.

found a fix!

I have no idea what's causing it, but I've figured out how to fix it: turn off javascript in your browser preferences. Of course half the internet doesn't work after that, but it allows you view this site.

I started to wonder if it's a mac thing, because it's also affecting Safari, even the most recent version, but it happens on my PC too.

And don't drop kick your computer, because it's not your computer's fault. It's this site's fault.

While I'm no longer actively developing this site; deactivating Javascript may help some users, but it isn't the solution. I'm running with Javascript activated and am having no issues on Rat.Net.

There are some known issues with a mix of browser plugins, network connection settings, and Javascript activation that can cause the symptoms being described.

For example, there has been many computers (and websites) compromised recently due to malformed scripts and pdfs. Until fixes were available, the solution was to disable Javascript in your browser - or at least in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

If certain malware instances still exist on the respective computer, then turning on a browser plugin or activating Javascript may give you the impression of improvement on websites with lots of objects - or on sites that sites that frequently visit.

Hope this helps,
