Opinions wanted: perforated or not

I'm looking to buy my first ever pair of leather, armoured pants for weekend rides and the occassional multiday trip. I have some curdura overpants for poor weather, but like the idea of more protection in case of a spill... less bulk too.

I'd appreciate any opinions on perforated or non-perforated leather pants.

1 - how much windflow do you get through the perforated stuff and is it too much?

2 - what temps to you use either?

3 - is non-perforated leather okay for hot weather? ie/ hot much do you sweat?

4 - is the perforated stuff much weaker in case of a spill?

thanks all!

I have a pair of perforated, armored leather pants and they are great when the temps get over 80 degrees. I wouldn't wear them in temps below 70 degrees or so as you can really feel the air moving through them.

Get the perf'ed... you'll be inclined to wear them more; non perf'ed gets really hot in the summer. I usually wear something to wick sweat ( like UnderArmour Hot Gear ) in the summer and just put a windblocker ( or 2 when it's really cold ) under in colder weather ( under 70F or so ). MotoGP riders use perf'ed leathers...they'll hold up just as well if they're good quality. Throw some Frogg Toggs over them & you're good in the rain too.

Depends on what you buy, so very subjective

Anything above 50F, so from cool morning (little chill, sometimes layer), to 100+ day temps

Leather should hold up better in a crash, many cases of walking away from a textile mesh crash with raspberry burns. (see ADV faceplant forum)

Depends on overall quality, there are trade-offs on leather vs textile, and armor. Don't skimp, or if you're tight try www.newenough.com for their closeout specials

Airflow on perf pants is dependant on airflow over bike. You may find that you're warmer because engine heat is getting in through the perf. Just fyi

I wear my perfed jacket only a couple months in the summer, when it is over 75 F or so. If you are getting your first jacket, you propably should get a solid one first, then get a perfed one when you can.

Thanks all.

I have a few jackets already for every season - touring-style cordura, leather for the local / day trips, and a mesh one too.
Due to my tall slim stature, I havent found leather pants that would fit, and my cordura pants are too heavy for the summer or even mild temps.

So I'm opting for some perf leather pants based on the recommendations. Can always throw some over-pants on if it gets too chill. But good to know they still offer good crash protection.

That'll teach me to read the few first lines of the first post! I only have solid Vanson pants, and I definitely want a pair of perfed Traveller pants for the real hot weather. I think the perfed pants will hold up pretty well, but would rather not find out! Ride safe!

Not really answering your questions but I went with Bohn Bodyguard Adventure Pants. They are like Spandex with armored padding in the hips, tailbone, thighs, and knees. It allows you to swap out with whatever pants fit the weather.

Hulahula, I like the concept of those armoured under pants and considered getting some. I typically wear carhart cotton/ "duck" pants for most of my riding. They held together better that you can imagine in my one lowside, but I'd like something with armour. Hence the leather pants. But the carharts helpd up as good as I'd hope leather could - fabric looked worn, but didnt wear through at any point.

How comfortable are the Adventure pants?
