Smile pants riddle solved?

wow, after trying about 8 pairs of various leather pants, (thanks to MC Superstore's no restock fee policy) and not finding anything that had comfort or more often the problem being they had the whole Power Ranger Moto gp Squid factor. I finally found simple , thick normal looking pants that run pretty true to size. All I wanted was some more abrasion resistance than denim, I figure I could always add knee protection under if needed. if anyone has experienced the same frustration, try www.topgearleather.com and check out their Thick Pants for Motorcycle Riding, they are only $60 and pretty thick leather, and holy cow! they even have belt loops, which hardly any others had

Those look great. Thanks for the post. I have a pair of First Gear pants I bought last Feb. They have been a thorough disappointment. First a pocket zipper broke than the crotch zipper broke. Pretty worthless for the money.

Thumbs up

Or you could get the Triumph "Western" leather trousers. I have them and they are great. They come with knee protection (and belt loops!). Great quality.

Should be under warranty - their leather stuff (that I have anyway) has a 10 year warranty. Their textile pants a 1 year warranty. Could be worth your while to check it out.

I wear Draggin Jeans, which have woven kevlar inserts in them. They're a bit scratchy on the skin, but you soon get used to it, & they offer great protection. I also wear R.M Williams Moleskins, which are traditional Aussie Stockman pants. Theyr'e made for spending all day on a horse. So they're very thick, as well as being soft & comfortable. They're also quite a smart cut, & although they're white, you can get them very dirty, & still get them clean again. Their one downside, for me, is they're too hot, & I only get to wear mine in winter (so they should last me decades)

I, too, am a great fan of Draggin Jeans, but at the Barbers' Motorsports Vintage Bike Festival a couple of months ago, there was a vendor with all Triumph gear. Sure, they may have been discontinued models, but the prices were great. I bought a pair of the Triumph Western leather pants for $69. With thermal or poly long-johns, they are warmer than the Draggin Jeans and with the knee armor, they offer about the same protection.

BTW, there were also some great buys on gloves.

trousers

You might take a look at "Duluth Trading.com". they have a nice pair of "firehose" jeans that are extrememly heavy canvas and are quite comfortable as well. No kevlar or other reinforcing but they are heavy enough to assure some decent protection and quite comfy to wear. They go by the title of 5 pocket firehose jeans and are a 13.4 oz canvas.....$44.50 plus shipping...
I also own a pair of "draggin jeans" and like them in cooler weather...they are heavy....

Haven't heard of Top Gear before. Is there any tie-in to the long-running BBC TV show of that name? It's not The Stig's white leathers, is it?
