Hello all,

I'm in the US and have a 2001 Adventurer. I've never had protective (armored) riding gear and have decided it is time to buy some. I have a full helmet, of course, but I need pants and Jacket. Problem is, with all the brands out there, a guy doesn't know where to turn!

I thought that some of you more experienced folks could make some suggestions as to brands, types, material, etc. I live in Ohio and I'm a fairly slim 57 year old guy. I'm assuming that leather isn't necessarily the best route to go anymore.

All suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Steve

A lot can be narrowed by your budget. I have a pair of First Gear Pants and Jacket.I would say a pretty good bang for the buck. I have a pretty good regard for the reviews on Webbikeworld . BTW, my goal is to get thinner and purchase a one piece from Rev'it, or maybe Rukka. Pretty expensive though.

Many folks choose Aerostich. Hand made in USA, and refined over the years by input from us. There are two ranges of suits in one and two piece.

There are tons of threads on other boards about riding suits. The AdvRidres.org ( or com) is a good site as those guys just don't just ride in there suits, they live in them for weeks at a time. The Aerostich line in not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Check out the Aerostich site for how they make their stuff, it is educational, and not all sales pitch.

When I wear my'stich suit around here, people look at me like I'm an astronaut or sum such... lol... Having been down once, I am glad I had the suit on and I am happy to look like a geek in my suit, because I can stand up on my own, after the fall..

I've become a big fan of the Rev'It line. If there's a dealer in your area, I highly recommend you check their stuff out.

motorcycle gear review is a good start. Newenough.com doe s apretty good job of describing fit issues. Vansons leather has some deals (look around the site, no talways easy to find). I like my JR Blaster 2 perforated jacket for 60+ days. I still think leather has it together over synthetics. Notice that all synthetics with armor must have straps to hold the armor (mostly) in place.

Also check out WebBikeWorld.com for really good reviews on gear. They're my most trusted source for good, honest information. They buy most of the gear they test, so they're not beholden to anyone.
