Ive been a big fan of Cycleport, formerly Motoport for years. I currently have a pair of the Voyager AX overpants and have had great sucess with them. They have some high density foam in areas, easy in and out and the best thing, waterproof.

I will start riding full time again in the next week or two and our weather will be in the high 30's to low 40's at night, the Cycleport gear works great in these temps even in pouring rain.

I'm a fan of the FirstGear pants for commuting - I have a set of the HT II textiles for cool weather and HT Air mesh for warm weather. The textiles are pretty much waterproof (a little leakage in real downpours), and the Airs have a zip-in waterproof liner that I've spent all day riding in the rain and stayed dry.

They're pretty well thought out pants all the way around, not too expensive, and come in tall and short sizes. If you're planning on mostly wearing them over a pair of paints, order your waist size. If you'll be wearing them alone, get the next size down.

A suggestion - knees are complicated devices best left undisturbed - at a minimum upgrade to the CE armor. My preference is the knee pads that from dragginjeans.com that are so nice I use them in all my riding pants. They're made by Knox, and without a doubt saved my a trip to the hospital and a lot of pain in a crash last year. :hammer:

+1 to Firstgear, but they're the only ones I've used, so I can't compare.

I often choose to wear my leather jacket as it is a bit rommier and warmer than my Aerostich jacket. My 'stich setup is a 2-pc style that zips the bottom and top together to make a 1-pc. An option for the pants is to zip on a bib-overall. This allows me to wear protection that will stay on like a 1-pc suit... well ok.. the pants will stay on, the jacket can slide up.

I haven't ridden with out protective pants since i bought them. I like my skin, it looks good on me.

I got some Belstaff overpants made of Cordura. They have padding in the knees and hips, and I sewed the zipper onto them so I can zip my (Belstaff) jacket to them to prevent the jacket from riding up. Spray on waterproofing makes them almost waterproof, and I am toasty warm to 0C (+32F for you 'mericans ). Only C$100, so the price wasn't toooo bad either.

I bought the JR Blaster perforated pants. Not for wearing over jeans, but over shorts. Thinking they would be cooler on days off rides. Didn' find them much help, as I wear tall boots.

I wear my Tourmaster Decker pants (http://www.tourmaster.com/xcart/prod...uctid=81&cat=6) when I ride. They work real well as an overpant. Plenty of leg length (chap style legs, boy racer style top). Makes the girls go wild when you start to take them off. Need some Elvis playing (no, not Jail House Rock).

I had to have a zipper sewed to them to attach to my jacket, as they have only a full waist zipper. I then took the mating zippers from other jacket and the JR and sewed them together so that I can wear whatever combo I like. Love having the leather on. I left the hip pads off. The knee pads are adjustable for height with an ingenious idea: multiple rows of velcro in the knee pocket for the pads (changes the bottom of the pocket). Really glad they were on in a little spill I took this past fall. Pun intended. No marks, no muss. Hardest thing I have found is getting pants without pockets (what are they thinking?!). The only complaint I have is that the first pair was falling apart. My dealer got them to replace them. Have barely worn them since. Now winter is aobut over, so we will see.

Another firstgear fan here. Never gotten wet in them and have ridden as low as 12 degrees with them. Easy on and off helps out too.
