For casual riding I agree with above postings about First Gear Mesh jacket - flows air well and seems to have the right sort of armor. However, for more spirited riding I trust my Vanson fully perforated leather jacket more. Very cool and the protection of good quality leather.

Although I've had issues with the company (i.e read 'the owner' as he is the company), I'd highly recommend Motoports Kevlar Air Mesh Jacket. It is taylored made for you so it is pricier than of the shelf stuff but for hot and humid climates it's probably the best jacket out there because:

1. It's made out of a Kevlar blended fiber which exceedes the tear and abrasion strength of Cordura Nylon and cheaper perforated leather.
2. Even with a black version, it doesn't transmit heat from the sun like most black materials do because it's Kevlar (Glass workers use kevlar gloves when blowing and working with molten glass).
3. The air mesh feels like your not even wearing a jacket when at speed
4. You can get waterproof gortex liners that zip into the jacket
5. It's tailored for your measurements

My only issues with it is the company that makes it - read: Long long long wait times, awful customer service if things go wrong.
Also they claim a lot about the kevlar blend materials they use (made by dupont) but they don't point to any 'outside' tests/info on their claims although they do have a lot of feedback in which to back up their claims.

I have had a Cortech GX Air vortex jacket for 6 months. I highly
recommend this jacket. The entire jacket is made of a breathable
material. It is lined with heavy jersey material and armor for
safety. It comes with a windproof/waterproof liner, that can actually
be worn alone, but is fitted to line the inside of the jacket. The
third liner is made of quilted thinsulate. Both liners zip into the
shell. YYK zippers are standard throughout for liners and securing
compartment closures. The windproof liner has a zipper closure with a
velcro flap to prevent wind/water from penetrating the zipper. So,
although water will penetrate the shell, it is stopped and shed by the
liner.

The shell has a zipper closure and a padded racing collar with
velcro fastner to secure the zipper and close the jacket comfortably
around the neck. There are adjustable fitting straps on the sleeves
and at the waist to snug it up and customize the fit based on the
liner use and your body shape.

This jacket does not starve you for organization space. There are two
zippered exterior pockets for convenient access, and are are the
perfect size for a wallet or a mobile phone. The zipper tags are just
the right size to manage with summer gloves on. Inside the shell
zipper opening is a map pocket, that is also handy for placing eyewear
or other low profile necessities. There are two inner breast velcro
closure pockets that are good size for storing either a mobile phone,
documents, mp3 player, radio, PDA, or other such gear.

The jacket is noticeable. It comes in several color schemes, and has
reflective cording and patches for higher visibility no matter what
time of day you are riding. It is very comfortable. I have used this
jacket in temperatures up to 80 degrees, and as low as freezing. It
is designed to work with the changing temperatures and elements that
you may face on your next ride. For instance, when I wear a t-shirt
under the jacket, the air goes right through the jacket and you don't
really notice that it is there. In other words, I couldn't have been
any cooler by only wearing the t-shirt, but it protects my upper body
from bugs, debris, and sun. The only problem I had was a place to
store the liners, then I discovered a velcro zip pouch along the small
of the back that will conveniently hold the liners as you remove them.

This is the best all around jacket that I have found. It is
comfortable, convenient, and the design is flawless and well thought
out for accomodating the rider needs.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Visit Cortech at their website.

Because of their careful attention to details and design, I am
currently looking at Cortech as an alternative supplier of sport luggage for my Triumph Sprint ST.

Ride Safe.

=ike=

I stole this from another post but HIGHLY agree and recommend.... San Diego summer get warm but this keeps cool and SAFE.

My friend and I have the exact same Triumph Summer Mesh Jacket with armor and he had gone down around 75mph. It trashed his jacket but it saved up with road rash. All he had was a broken collarbone.

In the hottest summer weather here, high 30's celsius I wear a Joe Rocket "Phoenix" Mesh jacket.

Light very well armoured and not to costly, very cool to riode in and quite stylish also.

I second the Olimpia Textile Jacket. I just got one and it is not only super comfy but incredibly well made. The insert is waterproof and more than just a shell. I believe it will keep me toasty warm in the New England Fall and Spring.

Without the shell it has great mesh venting.

I've got an Alpinestars ACR mesh jacket. I like it & it'll get a lot of use during our summer. I too have reservations about the amount of protection it would give. But I know one thing; it'll give a darn site more protection than the Babour jacket I was wearing when I fell in my early years biking. That Barbour survived three slides & so did I with barely any injuries.

It looks like they've restyled it this year. Photo of it:
