Black vs Brown Leather Jacket

I'm looking at a few different jackets and have narrowed it down to a few. So far I've been looking at features such as armor and liners and vents. But to narrow it down to my final choice, brown vs black is coming onto play.

It feels silly to ask this question, but style is part of riding. My question is...

can I wear a brown jacket and ride a black motorcycle? Or is this a belt must match the shoes sitution.

Part of my riding is commuting, and a brown jacket will match the shoes, if you will, more than a black jacket. But it just seems more natural to have a black jacket with the black bike.

Anyway, just thought I'd as you all for your thoughts.

There's a bad joke I could make about carpet matching the drapes, but I'll pass. Wear what ever you want. I wear a brown jacket because it's a really nice one and somebody else bought it for me. My boots are black, because I when I bought them a long time ago they cost me a lot of money, and I'm not about to toss them out if they're not worn out, or don't match my jacket. I don't care what other people think of what bike I ride, either. If I wanted to be like everybody else, I'd ride a Harley.

It's really all about style and matching when it comes down to colours, so with a black bike I'd wear a black jacket. I've got both black and brown leather jackets but have a black bike with red/black tank and a blue bike. These days I tend to wear the leather jackets off the bike and have a purpose made nylon-type armoured water-proof motorcycle jacket (Black-Red) for riding.

...but as Whathethrux indicates, whatever floats your boat.

I'm one that needs rules when it comes to fasion LOL

So, although you both suggest 'go with what I like', I think I need to follow Tbirdnz "black jacket with black bike" rule LOL

Or buy two! :-D

Easy. Get a black jacket and wear your riding boots then change your shoes when you get to work. Do not skimp on actual riding shoes/boots. I leave a pair of (brown) shoes at work and depending on which boots I wear I change when I get there. I have one pair of riding boots that are comfortable enough to just wear all day.

I've had many black leather jackets, but a brown or tan leather will set you apart from the crowd,I were a buckskin color leather riding jacket and get tons of complements I like it and that's all that matters.........sandman

my 2 cents:

While style does play a role in selection of riding gear, I put more weight on personal preference.

Spend your money on what YOU like. Buy the jacket based on the look: the cut, fitment, and most importantly, how it feels fully fastened. If it happens to be black or brown, so be it.

I see nothing wrong with a brown jacket on a black bike, provided the belt & boots are also brown.

I for one follow Johnny Cash: "I'll stop wearing black when they make a darker color".

I have a few different jackets black / brown. I wear the heaviest jacket riding and it just happens to be black. I bought it in San Jose at a place called Just Leather. At the time I had it made the guy would only make leathers out of black motorcycle leather. He said most leather jackets are to thin and I should make sure I found one made out of this type of leather. He also said to make sure the zipper and snaps are made of high quality brass. You could call there and ask what type they use on their leathers. Don't worry so much about color just buy good safe quality and do the same with a pair of lace up boots. Remember slip on boots slip off. Enjoy !!
