Triumph Lawford Jacket

I picked the Lawford jacket up from my local Triumph dealer yesterday. It's my first motorcycle jacket (only been riding for a year).

My first impression was that the leather seemed a bit thin, particularly in the back panel where there's only one layer of leather lined with mesh. I believe the Triumph site lists the leather thickness as 1mm. However, the majority of the jacket (front panels, sleeves, collar) seem to have two layers of leather. I think some would argue that 1mm is too thin for a MC jacket, but the jacket does come with elbow & shoulder pads, which are quite comfortable when installed, and has a pocket in the back for an optional spine protector.

I think this jacket falls more in the "fashion" end of the leather MC jacket spectrum. If you were to lay your bike down in this jacket, I suspect the leather will probably be wrecked. The leather is actually a golden color with an oiled "antique" finish. If you took a digger, you'd probably wear the finish off.

If you are interested in the jacked, I would talk to your local dealer and see if they would be willing to order one for you so that you can check it out (with the option of sending it back in the event that you don't like it). When I told the sales manager at my local dealership that I was interested in the jacket, he was more than happy to order one in and send it back if I didn't like it.

Overall, I'd rate this a 5 out of 5 for style, but probably only a 3 or 4 for function simply because of the thickness of the leather and the probability of it looking "ruined" if it were ever to be in a wreck.

I don't have any pictures to post yet, but I'll try to get some posted tonight.

Hope this helps.

Keep an eye to www.worldoftriumph.com they are in the process of sales on various items. New list each Friday.
I just bought the Keprotec jeans were £99 for £25
The best deal I've seen so far was for a Jacket was £270 sold for £30
The Lennox Jacket on there now for £115 half price and they will ship world wide, but sorry don't know what the cost would be.

whaever you get, put all the armor in it. lot of folks forgo the back piece but having slid on my back...would never go without it...the leather should be plenty thick on the Lawford. I dont have a triumph branded jacket (wear Vanson and a vintage 60's biker)..but from what I have seen, they use high quality leather...the thickest leather wont do you any good if it is crap and not put together well...

Has anyone else gotten one? I've really kinda had my eye on this one and just wanted to see people's thoughts on the actual quality of the leather. What kind of leather is this made of? I don't believe it says on the website. Thanks.
