Leather vs. Fabric for cold weather

Next week I am giving my car to my wife and going to the bike full time. I need to get some cold weather gear. I am not sure whether to get leather or one of the various fabric options. I am in central Virginia where average mornings (when I leave for work) are mid 30's to low 40's. We do occasionally dip into the 20's for days at a time and probably only have 5 or less days below that. I have about a 15 minute commute each morning. I have good rain gear so waterproofness does not make a big difference. Please give your experiences especially if you have used both. Good glove ideas would help too.

I'm a big fan of leather for both its wind blocking ability and protection, but I wear my textile gear, especially pants, much more frequently. The lower weight and greater flexibility of textile gear makes it more comfortable to wear and no leather gear is ever sufficiently cool above 70 -75 degrees Fahrenheit. Lately, I've been trying to buy hybrid gear that combines textiles with leather in the high abrasion areas. Unfortunately, hybrid leather pants are hard to find.
