Scotchguard vs ?

What do you use to keep your gear water repellant?
How often do you re-treat?
Washed my Olympia Airglide Jacket and liner after being caught in a rain storm. Stayed fairly dry. Washing instructions say to "touch up with Scotchgaurd". After reading instructions on label and website, it only mentions repelling stains, not water.
What are your experiences?
Do you use something different?
