Tyre check

I got back from a long run yesterday on my CB1300 and happen to notice when I was pulling it onto the rear stand a shiny end of a nail in the tread of my rear tyre . Pulled it out, more than an inch long, tyre went immediately down. (It's a tubeless sports tyre).

Now I used to check the tyres regularly for such objects picked up and must have got a bit complacent never finding anything as I cannot remember when I had last checked that bike. As it is the one I do my low-flying impersonations I was lucky I never had a blow-out.

This must be the first time in all my long mileage that I have had a puncture in a road bike.

Took it off and had it fixed by a bike tyre-shop as its comparatively new and at $350 too expensive to ditch.

Moral, check your tyres regularly and a matter of routine !

I give a quick walkaround my bike every ride, tyre issues scare me more than errant wildlife, old ladies turning in front of me, and hidden speed enforcement officers

My rear tyre gets checked every time I come home as I always oil the chain after each ride no matter how far I have travelled. Then, when the rear is done I give the front a look as well, it only takes a minute!

Andy.
