Overtaking

This description of an overtaking technique appeared in my club magazine this month:
  1. Accelerate as hard as you can at the vehicle in front, staying dead centre, and come up to between 0.5 - 0.75 seconds behind.
  2. Take a lingering look over your shoulder to see how many cars you've penned in.
  3. Indicate that you're about to overtake for no more than 1 second.
  4. Do a pointy wave at any traffic nearby to let them know that you want to be where they are and that they need to move out of your way, now.
  5. Whilst maintaining the pointy wave, swerve wildly into the outside lane with one hand on the bars then wildly back to complete the overtake.
This was not, you understand, being promoted as a good technique, merely one that had been seen in the wild.

What other unsafe methods have members here seen?

*phew* I thought that was a serious piece. getting .5 seconds behind anything is asking for trouble. But it is a good "how not to do it" list.
