Tougher laws for riders

NZ is revamping it's traffic laws for motorcycles.

Tightening up of rules for new riders, what they will be allowed to do.

Limitation on high powered lightweight machines is an amendment for newer riders.

Lower fines but more demerit points, leading to loss of licence, are being proposed.

Interesting article Tbones....

Australia has had "learner legal" bikes for a number of years. Basically a 250, but some of the 650s can be restricted for learners.

What I'd really like to see here is a wider education program for drivers awareness, and a rider education program to show how the bike is so invisible.

They make comment on 18% of claims are for motorcycles, yet say they aren't very often at fault. Yet, we've discussed before that more often than not the bike is in the "right" but just doing the wrong thing to be noticed in time. If there was a program that illustrated that fact, we'd be a lot better off.
