Sliding outa control
Thinking POSITIVE but I've also been thinking about uncontrolled slides (on pavement). I can only remember three (and thankfully didn't go down):
1. When I was just a kid (2nd bike), going around this corner I'd taken frequently (earlier in the year). Well it was under a tree and the tree was drippy...all the rest of the pavement was bone dry but that one patch. Lesson # 1: not all pavement is the same.
2. A few years back on a fairly new bike (to me), I went into this slide for no apparent reason. Really freaked me out. I went back to look for gas/oil/gravel...nothing...
Lesson # 2: just cause tires have lots of rubber, don't trust old tires.
3. Advanced lesson # 1. If it's wet, easy on those brakes...in addition, not only do trees drip, but pavement that doesn't see the sun for weeks can get really slimy.
Most importantly (and I know I'm preaching to the choir): ANTICIPATION...be ready for everything, car pulling out in front of you; changes in pavement, what's ahead (and behind & to the sides).
Ride safe
