Nasty Motorcycle Accident in Wisconsin

A car driven by a 25 year old crossed the centerline and ploughed into 10 motorcyclists. 1 dead, several critically injured.

Absolute carnage.

This is why I wear gear. Some of my ignorant neighbors and others I know say stupid things like, "Are you such a bad rider you think you will crash?" Not as much as I think I might be hit by someone else or hit a deer. A head on collision is nearly impossible to avoid unless you are lucky enough to see the driver is weaving long before he gets to you.

The look on that Firefighter's face says it all.

This is about a 1/2 hour from where I grew up.

There's been two motorcycle wrecks this year within 20 miles of my house from crossing the centerline. During the Flood Run an old guy crossed the center line in front of a pack of bikes. He was doing the old farmer "pull into the left lane before making a left turn on a two lane road" trick that I've never understood.

Then a recent grad of our high school turned in front of another recent grad who was on his motorcycle, middle of the day. Killed him. Very sad all around, both were good kids.

The solution is pretty obvious. It is time to do away with the centerline. It is causing way too many problems lately.

Another reason never to ride in tight packs. I don't why large groups of cruisers think its ok to do that. It makes no sense.

They were from this group: http://www.muskegonmotorcyclegang.com/index.php

Don't know what they were about, but the pictures on that site look like a decent, fun bunch.

Yeah, that first accident I mentioned during the flood run: the car never hit a motorcycle I don't believe. But when the bikes had to swerve to miss the old guy they all got into each other. Sounds like it would have gone better had there been more space between them. As it was, a couple got seriously injured.

I'd guess TEXTING too. Yesterday I was behind a person driving erratically, weaving and changing speeds. When I got the chance to go around I looked in and noticed that she was texting.

When drivers swerve in my lane, as a result of texting or talking on the phone...it may be wrong... but the modular gets flipped up, and I let the driver know.how.reckless they are being.

I see this all the time, and it would not surprise me if that was the case here. At the very least, distracted driving by some sort of gadget, I bet.
