Which do You Perfer City Streets or Highways?

I'm sure this has been talked about here before but I haven't seen it anywhere I've looked. So, in your own humble opinion where do you feel safer riding.... On a city street either main or side OR on the highway?

In my opinion I feel much safer on the Highway. My reasoning is even though I am riding at a high rate of speed everyone is traveling in the same direction and usually at the same rate of speed too. On the city streets I find it down right scary at stop lights and always fearful the texter not paying attention and ramming me from behind. Also way too many things can jump out from too many different places on city streets.

Lets hear them all..........

I like 'em both.
On city streets you have to be extremely aware of whats going on around you and your riding skills certainly need to up to par but its still real fun! There's lots of pretty girls at stoplight too.

Highways are fun because you get to go fast...nuff said!

I definitely prefer the highway. At least the traffic is going the same direction and there are not a lot of intersections (exits). I can also usually position myself to not be too close to other vehicles.

Highway. When riding in a city environment I'm constantly scanning for potential hazards. Not only am I paying attention to rode conditions, but to every parking lot, side street as well as crates all around me.

...twisties is where my happiness is.

preference and reality...

Where do I prefer? the open road, more bends the better.

Where do I feel safer? the open road or nicking up the road to the local shops. I feel more relaxed and confident.

Where do I feel less safe? In traffic. Even slow traffic makes me uncomfortable. Traffic on highways marginally better but I don't like it. I am on edge.

Where am I actually less safe? all things being equal, probably anywhere I am at high speed or have high closing speed vehicles around me. If I do come off or hit something or get hit it will be bad.

When should I feel less safe? Whenever I feel relaxed and safe... That is the time I am most likely to take it all too cheaply.

I commute to work each day and do between 300-500 kms each weekends on twisties and high speed bends. I love the weekends so much but there is an enjoyment in being a traffic gladiator lane splitting and seeking clear air but ensuring that I find cover when riding towards the enemy waiting to turn right in my front. I could never be just a weekend warrior I love the week day beginning with the sound of my arrows crawling out in the early hours keeping the neighbours happy and then releasing on the main road to my city office.

I am a young 57 and since 17 I have never lost the love of my ride and never will on any day road surface .

I don't really feel any difference. Both places haver their hazards and both places can be ridden safely.

I feel safer on roads...seems that you can still get out of the way and not get hit by a car next to you as on a bz highway
