Don't know about group rides - but was stationed at Camp Pendleton for quite a while in the 1980s - rode all over the place! Excellent rides up Mount Palomar, out to the desert and also behind Fallbrook on De Luz road... Wonderful twisty little road... It'll bring a smile to any motorcyclist's face!
Julian is another nice destination for a bike ride... There's some great stuff around San Diego - and of course a guy just can't ignore the coast highway!
I'm from Riverside but was working down in SD last month.
Don and I rode up to Julian, cool, clear wonderful ride on a bike.
Message me if you want to hook up for a ride, I'm willing to ride down.

I drove through Julian after the fires 4 years ago in my Toyota Supra and it was BAD, so much destruction.
Today ( duh 4 years later ) nature heals itself! It's looking great! There's still obvious signs that there was a bad firestorm but nature has its ways of growing over and healing her landscape.
Don and I had a great run! A bit chilly at the top but extremely fun none-the-less.
