Hello everyone!

Yesterday's EuroSunday Plus event was off the hook! Porsche and Mercedes had the best and largest marquee turnouts to date - certainly much more than we had expected...about 50 cars more than we expected! Standouts included two Carrera GTs, several 997 GT3’s, a replica spyder, the always popular Mercedes van, the Gull Wing Group SLs, and a huge turnout from the local Porsche & 356 clubs. The list goes on and on for an amazing turnout of cars that included not only our featured makes, but a nice mix of many European vehicles. With over 100 plus cars and motorcycles showing up to enjoy the perfect weather for this month's Plus event, our next EuroSunday in Granite Bay looks to be one not to miss. Spread the word as you never know what might be there - like the Saleen 7 that rolled in at yesterday's closing.

Those who wanted more EuroSunday were treated to a great drive up Folsom Auburn and eventually lead around the back side of the lake. One of our drivers had a minor scare when his car aggressively hit a patch of moss on the road spinning the car 300 degrees. No one was hurt and nothing was damaged, but afterwards the lead driver (Adam) did chat with the owner. Ultimately everyone made it to BJs in Folsom to enjoy a great lunch and much more car talk.

The next EuroSunday will be at Peet’s Coffee again in Roseville at the same location. We will be following the standard EuroSunday format and park cars according to the map on our site.

EuroSunday e-News Announcement 3/4/2008

EuroSunday’s main event for March has been changed to Saturday3/22/08.This change is because the original date of 3/23/08 is Easter Sunday (Larry Stiver's useless knowledge- Easter falls on the first Sunday following the first full moon that occurs on or after the day of the vernal equinox; the vernal equinox is fixed as March 21. There are some highly technical rules for determining the actual date of the full moon, but when you take all this into account the result is that Easter can never occur before March 22 or later than April 25 and will not be celebrated this early in the year for another 20 years)

All the usual EuroSunday event activities will be taking place (including the Breakfast Club) and at the usual times, but all will happen on 3/22/08 at the Pavilions in Sacramento instead. Hopefully the weather will be as perfect as it has been the last few days and we will have a great spring showing.

EuroSunday Flyer. http://eurosunday.net/files/sacramento.pdf - This is a revised schedule to include our "Saturday" meet this month.

Other news and updates;

EuroSunday Plus on Sunday March 9th at the Pavilions - This month's featured marquee is Citroen and Vespa. The Citroen group has been busy pulling its club members from Washington to Southern California, A&S is rounding up the local Royal Bastards Scooter Club, and a few folks are working on the Burgundy Topz vintage Vespa group to have to attend this month's Plus event. Not only do I tip my hat to everyone's effort, but must also acknowledge that this marquee will be one of my favorites for the year. FYI - Plus has quickly grown to exceed the numbers of our usual EuroSunday events. Please be aware of this and arrive early! The featured marquee will be corralled up front and all else will be pushed back in the parking lot.

Euro 500 Rally - We've heard that the reason for so many late registrations has been because of the time it takes to complete the application, and/or not sure of the weather for April. This is where some of you are saying "YEAH! finally...they get me" and others are snorting saying "Come On!" Here is how we'll take care of both of these issues;1.We'll have EuroSunday volunteers on hand to take pics of your car, take your info (drivers license, insurance info), take your deposit check of $145 made payable to Euro 500 Rally, LLC and help you complete the application...all in under 7 minutes!2.For April's weather we'll guarantee that there will be some. We will even put it in writing and sign it "There will be weather during this rally - guaranteed" This is the EuroSunday crowd - "Driven to Drive"!! Tim Taylor and Adam Cook are busy monitoring the rally's main route and in remote chance of snow, they have alternate routes mapped out already. They will be testing all routes in the next few weeks. This rally is to enjoy the drive and the company. EuroSunday Plus and EuroSunday (on Saturday) will be the only two times you can sign up for this event! Registration closes for this event on Easter Sunday.www.Euro500rally.com

What an amazing turnout! EuroSunday Plus featured marque was Citroen and Vespa and did they show up! Pictures are already up and it was a feast for the eyes for anyone who loves cars and bikes. We had the San Francisco and the Sacramento Citroen Clubs join forces to show up in plentiful numbers for this event. Seemed as if the late 1930s up to the late 1970's were lined up at the Pavilions for all to see. My best guess was that we had a few of the following; Traction Avant Saloon, Camionette, CV, CV Wagon, 1D19P, DS 21, and SM. A couple of these came stock with Maserati engines. Some had the European rotating headlights while even more had air suspension. For anyone lucky enough to sit in one of these rides...you would have experienced probably the most comfortable seat ever in a manufactured car.

Vespa was ever present as well and lined up right behind the Citroens. We had members of the Burgundy Topz with their vintage scooters providing the right flavor, and also the Royal Bastards Scooter Club with the modern twist, numbers, and the nice bright colors. First time for many and they fit right in with our usual EuroSunday crowd. With Vespa and Citroen owners you can expect eclectic vehicles and owners who hear more music than the band plays...some worries for me early on when 8:00am rolled around and we had maybe six cars in the lot! "They'll eventually be here" said Richard Bonfond - the Citroen organizer with a shrug of his shoulders. By 9:00am the Citroens and Vespas began arriving and were still coming in by 10:30am! What a beautiful array of cars and scooters coupled with some extremely friendly and fun owners.

Many regulars (Pantera, Ferrari, Viper, BMW~cars and bikes, Porsche, Ducati, Triumph~cars and bikes) were there with some newcomers making there first visit like a Ferrari 308, Noble, 1968 BMW R69, Ducati 1098, 2008 M3 (first one in Sacramento), Lotus, VW and Audi (finally some good numbers for VW and Audi!). Citroen owners eventually left for a short drive and lunch at the Fox and Goose. Royal Bastards had a 10:30am ride starting in the downtown which called for an early leave. The Burgundy Topz also had a ride coordinated leaving from EuroSunday, which left everyone else saying what about us? Well...Adam was out of town and no one else scheduled a drive! He'll be back on our next meet which is SATURDAY, March 22nd at the Pavilions. Sunday is Easter so we are EuroSaturday for one month!!

Euro 500 Rally signups are still available on the web (www.euro500rally.com), but EuroSunday's March 22nd meet is the last day that we can accept signups. Volunteers will be on hand to help with the paperwork, pictures, answering questions, and taking deposits. Please get a jump on this. This rally is expected to be an extended version of our events with an absolutely incredible two day 500 mile drive winding through the California mountain passes. Don't miss this one! Great food, accommodations, cars, and people.

Happy Easter Everyone!!!

This months EuroSunday was one of the best we’ve ever seen. The breakfast club was small but consisted of Adam in his M3, Mike in his stunning yellow Porsche RS, Tim T. in is race prepped yellow Spider 355, and Vic in his Porsche 911. The after breakfast drive to the event was one of the most “spirited” we have had to date. At the event we had a 120 plus cars show up ranging from VW’s to Lamborghini’s and even it trailered in Porsche race car. We had several new participants at the event one of which was David and his hand built Factory Five GLM which stole the show. Jim P. was out there in his beautiful Jaguar, Gill in his new M3 showed off its new exhaust upgrade since the last event. Dennis in his Black Edition Mercedes provided a great contrast to David’s Factory Five GLM. A beautiful 280 SL and stunning MG were some of the noticeable first time participants. Two yellow Lamborghini Gallardo’s kicked the event into high gear upon arrival, one Coupe and the other a Spider form. The Lamborghini Spider had driven all the way from Nevada for the event and even participated on the drive.

Grant from Dream Car Solutions and Wade for Action Dent Removal went over all the EuroSunday announcements. Several important announcements were made one being that this Sunday was the last day for the Euro 500 Rally signups. We had several people sign up at the event but with a few more spaces still available we are allowing one more week to mail in any applications that are still out there. March 31 is the last day for applications to be received via email. The Euro 500 Rally will be held at the end of April and will be a great way to start off the summer series of EuroSunday events.

The after event drive was one of the best groups we have seen. David in his Factory Five GLM, and his wife Mary in her Porsche both first time participants were on the drive. Dan and Tim both in their Ferrari 355’s and gave fellow motorist a symphony of exhaust noise as they flew down HW 50. Dennis in his Black Edition Mercedes and Mike R in his Porsche RS teamed up on the drive and helped each other out get through traffic. A 427 Cobra was in the middle of the pack with a NSX in hot pursuit in the straights. Adam in his Mini Cooper made sure the back of the group stayed in line and gave radio updates to the lead cars. Many of the cars that started the drive had prior commitments and had to split off mid drive. Noticeable members such as Jim in his Jaguar waved goodbye to the group around El Dorado Hills. The drive winded its way through the hills of Placerville covering some amazing back country roads. The Lamborghini Spider met up with the group on the back half of the drive to finish off a great section of the days festivities. The last half down Sunrise turned into a sea of yellow, where both Mike in his Porsche RS, Tim in his yellow Ferrari 355 and the Lamborghini Gallardo Spider played a “respectful” game of cat and mouse with Adam in his M3 in hot pursuits. The drive ended at El Toritio Restaurant off of Sunrise.

Thanks to those who came out this Easter weekend! Hope to see you all at our next event EuroSunday plus on April 13.

I grew up driving & riding that area. Sacramento sure has changed - what were once old two-lane country roads are now wide & smooth. The only import cars we saw back then were few and far between, except for VW bugs, and a few Triumph and MG sports cars. A friend did treat himself to a Jag XKE - but he was old, probably 30 or 35 or so...

The rest of us were in (see if I can remember 'em) Chevy SS's, Dodge Chargers & Challengers, Plymouth Roadrunners & Duster 340's, some Mach 1 Mustangs, a few GTO's and Firebird 400's... It was the day of the muscle car! Long time ago. The howl of open secondaries on big Holley and Carter 4v's, the smell of burning rubber... An occasional crunch when one of those over-powered/under-suspended beasts didn't quite make it through a turn... I-5 used to just dead-end south of Sacramento after a flat, wide run into the river delta area down near Courtland. With virtually no traffic, it was an awesome place for a high-speed straight line blast. I remember racing a red Ferrari 308 out there in my bright yellow '69 Chebby - had him until about 125 mph or so, then he pulled away slowly.

Another buddy got a Honda 750-4, I think he punched it out to 900+ cc's - it was a wicked fast early style cafe racer by the time he was done with it. I augmented my screaming yellow '69 Chev with a Suzuki GS750... Had a blast on those same roads you describe - the trip up and around Folsom Lake was good. Highway 49 was twisty and largely deserted.

Thanks for the memories - I wouldn't mind riding my Triumph on some of those roads again. Spring in the foothills was usually wonderful, green hills and wildflowers! Sacramento has changed - we rarely saw those beautiful, expensive imports back then in the late 1960's through the 1970's.

Regards, Guy
