Long Island Sound. Sitting on a deserted beach in winter is magnificent, even if it is more protected.
JL, what's the old Post Road (Route 1, Boston Post Road) like out your way? I know the closer you get to Fairfield County, the thicker the traffic and traffic lights.
I wonder if it is worth taking that till you get near New Haven, then cutting out to find the Merritt Pkwy, taking that to Norwalk, then back to the Post Road for the short jog into Darien? Or I think there is even an exit that lets you down into a route directly into Darien? I don't know any other single road that'll take you all the way. How much time have you got for blundering and looking for the route on the way?
I haven't lived in CT in 30 years (Stamford), and 7 since I left Mass. (Worcester), so the traffic patterns are probably much worse then when I left.
Good luck. If you have lots of time for a slow backroads ride it could be very sweet!
