Sacramento to North Rim of Grand Canyon
Looking for any route recommendations for this trip.

Hope to take off for a 4-5 day jaunt and camp along the way.

Thanks in advance

From Carson City, take 50 to Ely and down 93. You can take a detour to Great Basin National Park but it'll cost you half a day. Proceed to 319 (Panaca, Nevada) and shoot across to Enterprise, Utah (56). Give me a holler and I'll join up with you in Panaca. Take the road to St. George, Utah (18). In St. George you have 2 options: one is to go through Zion Canyon (9), the other is to go across the Arizona Strip to Fredonia, Arizona (389). From Fredonia, it's an easy ride to Jacob's Lake (Alt 89) and down to the North Rim. The park road is a slow cruise. I'd plan at least half a day for the park.

Another option is to go to Cedar City, Utah (56), up and over Cedar Mountain (14), and down (89) to Kanab, Utah before hitting (Alt 89) in Fredonia.

The three options work just as well on the return trip. I can offer suggestions for side trips if you're interested. PM me.

May 17th can be cutting it close, because hwy 67 out to the rim is closed all winter long due to snow(they don't plow that road). Websites will tell you that it opens May 15th(see http://www.az511.com/hcrsweb/hcrsweb.jsp), but really it depends on how much snow they got over the winter, and how long it takes to melt.
