South Island NZ

Here's a preview of pics I took on my recent trip to the South Island, I covered over 4000km from top to bottom and doing both coasts and the central although I missed a large amount of the West Coast, a trip I plan to do by itself. Later I'll move this thread to Rides and Reports.

Not a good start as I cannot remember where this was, somewhere south of Nelson I think. I took over 500 pics on the trip, I'll feed a few in drips and drabs.

Definitely Milford Sound on the shores looking towards the Sounds.

On the way to Timaru with some of the Kaikoura Ranges in the background.

The township of Picton harbour, top of the South Island where the North Island-South Island ferry docks. (Wellington-Picton).

More to come.

Must have been a joy to cross so much beauty. I'm confused, though. Try, as I might, I don't see any signs of hobbit trails. Am I not looking hard enough.

Wow; those are beautiful. I'm with five; the peaks in the mist shot is my favorite of these, although the harbor picture is great too.

You lucky bugger!
I have traveled extensively all over Europe and scandanavia but i know for sure that New Zealand (especially the Sth Island) has the most beautiful scenery i have ever seen.

A few more:

Taken from the wire-rope bridge at Buller Gorge, which is also used for bungy jumping. That's a jet-boat on the water.

A tourist train but original and still runs twice a day. It's the Kingston Flyer, and here's a link to it:

Another shot inside Milford Sound

Actually a shot of the bottom of the North Island (Wellington hills).

Ride on !

Very nice photos indeed

Thanks Tbirdnz and Iceman,
if it didn't look so cool I could almost get homesick, Not really.

But the scenery is amazing and unique there is no doubt it is a beautiful country from top to toe.
