Great stuff Dave

It brings back memories of my visit to South Africa which unfortunately was not done on a motorbike. Thinking back to the roads now, I am sure I would have loved riding in the Drakensberg, Swaziland and around Cape Town. Towns like Mpumalanga were fun trying to pronounce, let alone ride.

We need more feel good reports like yours on here as they help balance the unfortunate crash stories. I'll get back to SA one day. In the meantime thanks for your work presenting these photos and as your reward I think you deserve a long ride to Cape Town and a wine in Paarl (with photos of course!!).

Nathan.

Easter Monday Day Run

Thanks guys. I don't know about a ride to Cape Town- it's 1,400km. It's easier to buy Cape wines in the shop! Well I did a day ride to Sabie & Graskop on Easter Monday & don't see why I shouldn't add it in here because it turned out to be an 850km breakfast & lunch run.

This region is 350km East of Pretoria & Johannesburg. The name of the Province is Mpumalanga. It was formerly known as the Eastern Transvaal & everbody seems to simply call it 'ET', because that's easier to pronounce. It's a very mountainous area and the main industries are timber & tourism.

These first few pics were taken at the top of Long Tom Pass, which is named after the cannon http://www.sabie.co.za/gallery/cannon.html , at an altitude of 7,000 ft asl.

They must have resurfaced the whole road in recent months & it's now top quality. The pass is 56km/35mi long.

In the pic below you can see the road in the centre of the ridge in the middle distance.

Looking towards Mt. Anderson, 7,500 ft.

Just beyond Mt. Anderson are some very exclusive fly fishing resorts. I'll include a few pics of one of them because it's typical of the types of hotels & general resorts that are common in this region.

This is another mountain pass. I know it must be hard to believe but there was very little traffic even though it was a public holiday.

That's about all for now.

Excellent report. Nice pics. I will try to post some of my Lesotho pics whenever this 3G thing is starting to gain some speed.

Mighty nice looking fly-rod water... I was thinking that just looking at the photos, then you mentioned fly fishing resorts... Hmmm....

If I come visit any of you in South Africa while visiting my sister in Cape Town can I borrow one of your Sprints LOL

I liked seeing many sprints parked together, its a rare sight here in Southern California.

Anyone renting Triumphs?

My wife was born in Sa but moved to the UK when she was eight. I managed to peruade her to go back a couple of years ago and snce then we've been back again but moved on up to Botswana and Zambia. I've fallen in love with southern Africa and would love to come again but this time rent a Triumph. I remember a post a while ago from a member stating his friend was thinking of Triumph tours. I tried searching for the post without luck. Anyone have any tips?. Ideally I'd like a Bonnie or a Scrambler.
