Canyon Straffing to the Coast, With Pix

Man. What a ride.... 265 miles, and w00t.

Here's a track of the ride (I live about 20 miles east of the right edge of the map)... lots of twisties, gorgeous scenery, and miles of empty, excellent road.

Everything east of McKittrick is some of the ugliest scenery anywhere. This is pretty much where the fun starts....

Incredible riding. Very little traffic, lots of carving and passing of hog riders.

This time of year, the hills are beautiful green. Good thing I brought my jacket liner and insulated gloves- it got cold up in the hills.

I had no idea it was so great back there. No wonder Pashnit calls the 58 one of the best motorcycle roads in California.

This tank is in San Louis Obispo...had to take the shot.

Rode north on PCH to Morro Bay... was a beautiful day. No time to gawk- got riding to do.

Near Simmler in California Valley. Cool thing about the valley was some serious woop-de-doos... hitting these hills at 90-100 mph make you laugh like an inmate at the Timothy Leary Academy for the Terminally Silly. WooHoo!

I love those twisties... on the way back, I was really hauling the mail through the mountains.

Hey Groucho, thanks for the pics. Looks (and sounds) like you had a nice ride. Although I have been down in that area a number of times, I don't think I ever rode 58. I took Nacimiento Road out of Paso Robles (thru Hunter Liggett) to the coast, which is always a good ride. I guess I need to look up 58 though Thanks again

Yup. 58 is a great ride. I was on it 2 years ago for the second time in my life. I especially liked the whoops!

You might want to try 43S to 166 over the hill to Santa Maria. It's a nice drive in a car anyway.
