I was living the life....then I miffed it.

This is my first ride report and hope everyone enjoys it. We certainly did.
Day 1-Friday Nov. 9th-
Having a three day weekend on Veterans Day my friend and co-worker, Bobby, and I decided to make a run for the Georgia Mountains before it got too cold. We called ahead and reserved a room at Two Wheels Only in Suches, GA. We would do 1300 miles in three days. There are alot of firsts in this trip for me. First real distance on my Sprint, Maggie. First trip using my Zumo. First trip to a few places I had never been to before and first time to stay at Two Wheels Only motorcycle resort. Bobby was the tour guide since he usually makes about 3 or 4 trips a year to Suches.

As I stated before this is the first trip using my Zumo on the bike. I have used it several times in the cage but had just got around to installing it on the bike. I purchased a marine switch that matched my heated grip switch so I could switch it on and off and I ordered the gps accessory cable. The cable didnt come in in time so I terminated the wiring directly to the battery. My install went without a hitch. I started to order the Gadget Guy mount but I just couldnt bring myself to pay that much for a gps mount and after checking with other riders on this site as well as others, I had everything I needed in the box with exception of a longer u-bolt. I used the u-bolt to go around the left vertical clipon post which put the Zumo directly in the center of the triple trees. Perfect. And it only cost me $1.20 vs. $185.00

One more note on accessories, I am the type of person that truly believes you get what you pay for. I had been pondering for some time what luggage to buy i.e. tail bag and tank bag. I did alot of research and ended up with a Nelson-Rigg duo from New Enough. Excellent quality and functionality. Fully expandable and stable at triple digits. Could'nt be happier and under $200 for both.

So at 7:00 PM after work on Friday we headed out to Suches, GA. from Kingsland, GA. (three miles from the Florida line on the east coast.)
We would travel 400 fun filled, freeze your butt off, miles up I-95, west on 16 to I-75, then I-85 to GA.400 and on to the mountains. The trip up was fairly uneventfull other than going through Atlanta.
It was midnight on a Friday night........in Atlanta. Bad freakin timing to say the least. We had just cleared downtown and Bobby was ahead of me about 100 yards. Now I don't know if any of you have experienced this before but I kept getting the feeling that I was getting crowded even though everything seemed to be ok in front of me, beside me, and behind me. Just a bad feeling. The closest cage to me was on my left but a little behind me. A few seconds later something told me to look back again. Sure enough, the cage on my left was about a foot away from my left pannier....with two idiots inside the cage laughing as if to see how close they could get before I noticed. I changed lanes to get away from them hoping they would carry on to what ever ghetto they stumbled out of. They did, but not before the passenger rolled down his window and flipped us the bird. ***? Every blood vessle in my head was about to explode and as pissed as I was I knew I better just press on so we did.
The temp. got down in the 30's and I don't know what the windshield factor was but to tell you the honest truth, I was pretty comfortable. We were both layered fairly well and the heated grips absolutely rock! They were so warm I wore street gloves. Yeah, Bobby was jealous. As a matter of fact the only thing he complained about was how cold his hands would get. Bobby has a GSXR but had always trailered his bike to the mountains, never riding the entire trip up and back. To tell you the truth, I had my doubts as to wether he would be able to ride that many miles in three days on the gixer. He proved me totaly wrong. He added a taller windshield and added some new Heli-Bars that raised them up 2 inches and 1 inch back. Doesnt sound like much but it make a drastic improvement in riding position for a trip this long.
One note about gas mileage. Bobby's gixer is a 750 and holds almost the exact same amount of fuel as mine. The Sprint gets about 70 miles more per tank than the GSXR. Hard to believe. Just goes to show how good our mapping in the Sprints really are.
Anyway, it's a little after 1AM and we start up the mountain. Bobby is leading the way. There are a few fawns in about the third curve there to greet us, standing by the road grazing. Just gotta love the feeling you get when deer are on the road side at night. Great is'nt it? LOL.
We start going through some tight sections and Bobby starts pulling away. I had to slow wwaaaaayyyyyyy down because of these dam* headlights. Guys, if you havent gone through the twisties at night on your '05 or newer Sprint, don't. It's extremely dangerous. As soon as you start to turn in the lanes disappear. If the the powers that be in the US ever tested this scenario I doubt we would see Sprints until it's fixed. Yes, it's that bad.
We arrived at Two Wheels Only around 2AM. We signed in at the door and up we go.If you've never been to T.W.O. it's a very unique facility. It's set up like a Bed and Breakfast for motorcycles only except there are atleast two beds per room and they also serve lunch and dinner. It's a popular spot for locals as well. Locals and other riders just passing through stop to eat. Buell also rents the entire facility every march for there "Demo Days". Yes, we will be there.
T.W.O. is also very close to everything like Cherahola Skyway, Tellico Plains, Blood Mountain, Helen GA., the Dragon, Deals Gap, and Delonoga GA. Everything is kept on a tab until you leave. They also have camping spots out back and it's owned by motorcycle enthusiests. Oh, and the food is absolutely awsome.

We awoke and got going about 8AM. We were the only bikes outside the night before other than a BMW LT.Bobby headed down stairs for breakfast and I was headed to the can when a guy approached me in the hallway about my bike. He was complimenting me on my Sprint and his BMW hat signified he owned the LT outside. A minute or two of small talk and off he goes downstairs and down the hall I go.
As I turn to enter the bathroom on the left there is a bedroom door wide open on the right of the bathroom. I turned to enter the bathroom and there is a woman standing in the room with a sweatshirt and panties, nothing else. It struck me as odd that someone would leave their door wide open while getting dressed. Especially odd for a woman. A fairly attractive one at that! I proceeded on with the morning ritual and met Bobby downstairs for breakfast. Not really thinking much more about it. Maybe she just forgot to close it? I wouldnt tell Bobby about it until the next day when it all made better sense.

We left TWO about 9AM and headed up HWY 68 toward Tellico Plains. There was beautiful scenery practically the whole way there.

We stopped in Tellico Plains for lunch at a place called Lodge at Tellico. It had only been opened for a few months. In addition to the restaurant, they also have log cabin style rooms for rent. Some with jacuuzi's and most with motorcycle garages. Pretty neat place. Sorry, no pics of it but it's on Hwy 68 and they may have a web site by now. They are open year around. We left there and rode the Cherohola. Long and fast sweepers. The Sprint felt right at home. The leaves were at there peak color change before they start falling. Quite nice.

After a few pics of the scenery we were off to the Dragon. We stopped for a few souveniers for my kids but they had no good kids t-shirts and I have too many t-shirts.I did purchase a hat. I'll say this, the Dragon Resort sells some pretty good quality accessories like Bags Connection, and Ogio No Drag back pack. Prices were average. There were approx. 20 bikes or so at the Dragon Resort with about 3 or 4 guys assesing damaged fairings and such from their spills. I thought to my self,"man thats a shame." A Duc, RC-51 and a few others were pretty torn up. The riders were wearing $1000 worth of leather but not one bike had frame sliders. Go figure. So up and down the Dragon we go. It's perfect weather and very little traffic. And best of all NO LEO's!
It's really fun riding the Sprint as it does so many things really well. It's a very versatile bike with decent handling but a bit of a pig in the tight twisties. Definitely not described as 'flickable'.
This picture was taken at the top of the Dragon Lookout.

On the way back we stopped for a few pics of this Hydro dam. One at the base and one from above.
