Thinking of making a run from St Pete FL to Lenoir, NC next summer and am in prelimary stage of setting up route. Looking for suggested routes. Want to stay off the interstates and go around this big cites if at all possible. Will head up toward Jacksonville and enter GA on US 301. Figured on route that takes me up US 1 through GA p/u 17 & 78 N in clayton Ga. would than take 23 to Ashville and than end up on 40 to Hickory than north to Lenoir. Is just over 700 miles. Anyone suggest a route though Savannah up through SC in NC?

Here's a very small road route you might like. I've done this ride several times as part of a longer trip. It's more direct than the one you've suggested. It routes through Anderson, SC so at that point you could go north and hook up to the BRP for a longer ride.

This does include the first 100 miles on the interstate, 275 from St Pete then 75 to just north of Ocala but that's the easiest way to get out of Florida quickly. There's also a stretch of 301 through north Florida but early in the am there's little LEO presence or traffic.

301 N thru Starke to Baldwin
90 East to 121 North
North on 121 to US 1 to Folkston
US 1 north to US 15 North thru Blackshear, Bristol the North on SR 121 to Currency
121 North from Currency to US 23 Tattnall and Reidsville-Collins- to Cobbtown
57 North to US 1 through Swainsboro
US 1 North thru Wadley-Louisville-to Wrens
17 North thru Thomson-cross I-20 then 43 North to Lincolnton
378N - 79 N -72 E to Calhoun Falls
81 N to Anderson
178 N to Liberty then Pickens
SR 8 E to SR 186 to Hendricks then Marietta
S on 276 to 414N to 14 N to 176 N in Landrum
176 N to Tryon then 108 N to Mill Spring and Rutherfordton
221 N to 64 N thru Morganton
64 N to Lenoir
