My first long ride on Bonnie
Rode from Calgary Alberta (Canada) to Salmon Arm British Columbia and back over the weekend 1200km total.
Bonnie is stock except a 2inch nip and tuck on the rear exhausts (to remove rear baffle) and a bikini fairing.
I set off from south Calgary west on Highway 22x to Bragg Creek, 22 north to Canmore, West on Highway 1a to Lake Louise, Highway 1 through Golden, over the Rogers Pass, through Revelstoke, Sicamous and then to Salmon Arm.
That's about 600km and lots of hills, and mountains, from 4000' elevation in Calgary and up.
It was my first long ride on a bike.
First impressions.
The bonnie was fine on the highway. I weigh around 280lbs and carried a small pack. I rode at 130 - 140kph (ish) most of the way. I didn't have any problems on the hills keeping up my momentum. Now and again I would have liked an extra 10hp, but I was still the fastest vehicle on the road.
The first leg I went for 2 hours without stopping and my butt hurt! After that I stopped every 150k to fill up and have a break.
The scenary was fanastic, with the mountains rising to meet me in the west. The weather was around 30C, so it was nice and warm riding. However, in the mountains cooling streams of air flow down the glaciers and really refresh you on your bike.
The journey back was just as good.
All in all a good trip and whet my appetite for more long distance stuff.
What is interesting is that I picked the Bonnie rather than the Sprint for my first long ride.
