It's been an absolute privelege to watch this trip report develop. Perhaps especially for those of us who live elsewhere and will never experience any of the route you've just travelled. Thanks for sharing it with us!

BTW I had three days in Bellingham WA, back in '95- stunning area.

Final mileage

I feel a bit guilty about pulling this thread up with the more recent rides that deserve their time in the sun, but the boss keeps asking me if I posted the final mileage for the trip and I couldn't remember if I had. Turns out 8000 was just a tad shy as the total came to 11,350...give or take a few for speedo inaccuracy...and much credit goes to the lovely wife for enduring the whole time on a stock seat which she says is just fine...with regular breaks....and I'm totally sold on the Rocket as a tourer with a lot of spunk...not a glitch in the whole trip.
And we just turned the first 1000 miles on the hack....taking it down to Washougal for a soccer game on Sunday....probably about an 80 mile round trip. I'm finding that people with two wildly different rides enjoy each for what they are and that there's little difficulty making the change. It seems you just subconsciously 'know' what you can do and wrestling a sidecar up and down hills and around countless corners just makes the Rocket that much more fun as you get the difference of powering up the hills and gliding around the curves....while the Rocket's 'get there NOW' ability highlights the laid back aspect of taking the thumper and watching the scenery a bit more closely.
Life is good.
