Not a long trip, but I snuck out of work early today. It's only about 10 miles to the Alta ski resort at the top of the canyon. LCC is just south and east of Salt Lake City. And yes, there is a Big Cottonwood Canyon too.

This is at the mouth of the canyon, heading east.

About 3 miles up, looking back towards the Salt Lake valley

A couple more pics on the way up

Alta ski resort at about the 9000 ft. level. The peaks around it run around 10500-11000 ft,

Nice pics. Alien looking country for a southern boy.

That bunch of twisties looks like a very poor area to have a get off. Lots of hard stuff around!

I was born and raised in SLC but now I'm in San Diego. Those mountains are what I miss the most.

I lived in Sandy for 24 years...have skiied Alta and the resorts in Big Cottonwood canyon. I used to ride my ol' 66 BSA up both canyons. Thanks for the pics.

WOW! I sure miss that view. I was born and raised in Sandy. Almost have forgotten what I used to see out my window every day. Thanks for posting the pics!

Great pictures, BEAUTIFUL country. Have ridden a lot in Southern Utah and love it, I didn't realize Northern Utah was so nice. Have to try it sometime

GP, it's nice as long as you stay away from the city. The scenery's different from southern Utah, but pretty impressive anyway.
