If anyone has tips or advice for getting to Alaska, I'm listening.

Go generally northwest until you find the last paved road then keep going until you run out of road. :-D
But seriously it's an exceptional trip. I did it alone a few years ago when I took off for a couple of months and had a fantastic time. No schedules, no one else's bike breaking down, no reservations, just me, the bike, my camping gear and a road atlas. Come to think of it I *really* want to go again....
As far as advice goes: put sealant in your tires before you go, there's plenty of gas, don't ever let a Harley shop fix your broken clutch cable, the roads are generally good but expect a few miles of muddy slush here and there, moose will *not* move quickly out of your way (or anywhere else for that matter), elk will chase motorcycles, if you round a curve in the Yukon only to see a pickup stopped in the road ahead with a bear on top of it be quick with the camera or you'll miss your shot, say "hi" to the crew at Skully's Burl Bar for me ... and ask them where in the hell I went with them for the week following that evening as it's all a bit fuzzy to me, if you really want to get a feel for the distance take out a map and figure out at what point during your trip you'll be closer to Russia than home, don't let the wife read any of this or you'll never make it to Canada much less Alaska.... :-D
