There are probably other places I could have made this post, but since it wasn't a RAT only event specific to one chapter, I'm gonna start a thread about this great rally here.
I didn't get to the event until Saturday afternoon, so I'm hoping some other people post about their experiences too. Anyway, we stopped for lunch on the way up in Savanna, IL. They have a bar/ motorcycle museum that we stopped at and they had a Triumph flat-track racing bike from a few decades ago. Looks like a winner!
Some of my group, the Easy Readers, stayed at the Swiss-Aire. Nice hotel. Even nicer cow.
I mean no disrespect to the hotel owners or their cow, but I was thirsty for some sweet milk:
This is a shot of our bike gang:
Later we met at the Chalet Landhaus for some drinks. Man do I love the beers from New Glarus. I think I tried all of them at least once.
Later that night we all had a Swiss Family Style dinner at the New Glarus Hotel. This was a great meal. Thanks to the people that put this on. I met some really cool people. I sat by a guy named Ron from the Quad Cities and about a zillion guys named Tom. They also had a very cool raffle with door prizes afterwards.
After dinner we were treated to some great polka music from the Jeff Winard group. These guys were true professionals and looked to be having a great time. Plus, I’m pretty sure that guy on the left is the real world embodiment of Ned Flanders.
Stupid sexy Flanders!!
Finally, I’d like to thank everyone that put this on. The people at Team Triumph, BBC, all the hotels and bars in New Glarus, New Glarus Brewing Company, the people that made my cheese, sausage, and chocolate – you all did a great job. I missed out on some of the fun and merriment on Friday night and the rides on Saturday, but I will be coming back for more next year. I have been to a few rallies and this by far was the most organized. Although this was my first year, I was made to feel truly welcome.
I’d also like to thank my friends Al, Jesse, Jason and Gail for their help on the way home. We had a very wet cold ride and somewhere outside Cascade, IA – my usually reliable Speed Triple decided it wanted to only run on one cylinder. We stopped at a gas station and tore the bike down. We added gas, checked the spark plugs, and I took off my TFI fuel injection box. We were able to get it running in around an hour – with a little spilled gas and more rain in the boots.
Thanks again to everyone for a great weekend!!
