I'll pick up my '06 Sprint tomorrow, Oct. 1st 2005, and I hope to do a round trip from Massachusetts to LA and back in late spring of '06. Any suggestions or help with routes would be greatly appreciated. Never too early to plan.

Will 8 or 9 days each way be enough, leaving a few days in LA to spend with my daughter? I'd rather not go through the desert and hope I can get some of the PCH on the way there.

Thanks.

Need more information to help you. Do you want to go via Interstate or back roads. How long a day you plan riding ?

I would love to blend interstate with some back roads. As I have only three weeks, I can't do all back roads.

As for the travel day, I hope to do full days. That is daylight hours. I should be able to cover 500+ on interstate days.

I'd like to do a northern states route out and a mid-states ride back. I guess I can't avoid the desert so I think I may have to leave in April, not May.

Thanks for responding. Any advice is welcome.

From Buzzard Bay to Denver you have 2000 miles of fairly flat lands. From Denver to LA you are left with another 1000 miles but this part is more interesting. I did 3 rides from Montreal to Western USA. With that distance I would say that we start from the same place just about. I allways make it as fast as I can to Denver and start riding from there.

From Montreal to Denver I cover the distance in 3 days but let's say you do in in 4 that is 500 miles a day. Fairly easy to do. For long days I allways stop 10 to 15 minutes every hour to hour and a half. It saves your butt for the end of the day. Of course it depends on your butt. Mine is small and sensible.

Back to Denver, if you are there in 4 days, you can easily make it to LA via back roads in 3 days. Roughly 350 miles a day. There are some very nice roads going accross Colorado and Utah. The only desert part would be from Las vegas to LA.

Depending on the time of the year, for the weather, you can go accross on a route more to the south. I used that one to come back before. Your place to Knoxville via I 81, from there I 40 to Albuquerque. That is 2400 miles with 800 left to make it to LA. Once again your desert ride would be from Las Vegas to LA.

Do you use Microsoft Street and Maps ?
