Ojai and Highway 33

On a whim took the T-Bird SE (Nigel) on a drive up the coast to Ventura and then to Ojai. Stayed the night had a fine dinner and the next day experienced some amazing riding out of Ojai.

I have grown so tired of all the traffic everywhere in Southern California and, in particular, the Ortega Highway near my house that seems to have a serious cage or bike accident every weekend.

The ride on Highway 33 went about 75 miles through magnificent scenery and twisties and sweepers galore. The most incredibke thing is that I think I saw about 10 cars all day.

The next day I took the old lady for the same ride and she, who is usually yammering away at me to, "slow down and be careful", was whooping it up on the back of the bike and when I scraped the Boards on a turn let out a yell of delight.

After the ride I asked why she had so much fun on this ride and she said because it was beautiful, the weather was perfect, and there was no traffic. She said she never worries about me as a rider but some @$$hole hitting us- made sense to me and we'll be back.

If in SoCal- check it out.

Point of Forum appropriate etiquette: "Mrs. (or Ms.) Hub Bird" should be substituted for "old lady."
I had to laugh at this as I used to shoot pool at a pool hall where the clientele were predominantly Harley riders. The establishment employed a young lady to sell roses for the bikers to give to their women. The running joke was that the sales line was "Pardon me Sir, would you like to buy a rose for your bitch?"

I went back to SCal to see what I wasn't missing in 06. I entered the chaos via CA 14 and ran into a 4 lane total stop in Santa Clarta and did my very first lane splitting to reach an exit. After spending 4 days in Ventura county visiting old friends I departed SCal via Ojai and CA33 taking it as far north as Coalinga before getting on the I5.
This will be my route of choice for entry into SCal if I ever venture to that area again.
Please don't mind the Harley in the pics.

Santa Paula -

North of Ojai on the 33

Lunch stop in Maricopa

Some burned hillsides and orchards were the only sights of interest after the oil wells of Taft.

Took another ride up there yesterday and a lot of video to go along with it. i plan on spending more time filming along Hwy 23, Moorpark to Fillmore, Hwy 150, Santa Paula to Ojai and Hwy 33, Ojai to Nowhere. Yep, the road really goes to middle-of-nowhere that what's why you never see traffic. when 33 ends at 166, we turn left and stop at The Place, a nice bar and grill with just a couple farms nearby. Continue west to the coast, go west back towards I5 or back to Ojai, but i suggest road 95 to Pine Mountain Club.

i'll post a video when it's edited this week

was just up there again and the whole valley on Hwy 166 is Gorgeous and very green! We took the long way from Cold Springs Tavern up to Santa Maria and over to 33 via 166, very long but worthy road. We really like stopping at The Place on 33 in Ventucopa, little joint in nowhere with just a few people at any time. It's a nice change from Deer Lodge, Cold Springs which always has a crowd.

Almost forgot to post about this one. Thanks for the reminder, @405reck

Rode this last Thursday: 23, 126, 150 into Ojai and then the 33 up into the forest. Got stung by a bee, scraped the stinger out of me knee and pushed on, over the mountains. That one picture is from the top, where it was cold as f*&$, with some thawing snow about. Then on to Reyes Creek to meet a dog, eat some bad chicken tenders and have a few Buds.

Kicked it east, got on the 138 and checked out the poppies in Antelope Valley. It's worth the trip if you're close. Ripped back on the 14 and the 5.

Solid trip.

What's next?
