Grand Canyon/Pikes Peak ride

I just got back from another cross country ride on the T100 again. I went with a friend who was riding a Harley Road King. We went for two weeks and had a blast. We left Florida on the 5th of Sept. and headed towards Albuquerque NM. We took all the secondary rodes we could find. We then went to the north rim of the Grand Canyon and camped. From there up to Colorado to Pikes Peak (again). I tried this back in June on the Triumph, but at that time it was snowing hard enough that I could not ride to the top. This time it had snowed the night before but it was open to the top. The 09 with fuel injection did not skip a beat all the way up to 14100 feet. The bike was loaded down heavily and still got over 50 mpg. Here is a link to my pictures of the trip. www.flickr.com/photos/ironbuttallen I am sure glad they gave me a two year unlimited mile warranty.. Three months of riding and it has 13K miles. I just ordered the tools I need to do my valve adjustment. This bike is awesome.

Great pics GT! I rode out that way in '85 on a 600 Ninja. Started from Houston though. Went back in '87. A buddy of mine and I are planning on a trip through that area next spring. My Thruxton isn't a whole lot different from that Ninja in riding position and comfort so people think I'm crazy for thinking about doing long trips on it now that I'm 50, but I love it.

I am 51 and part of my reasoning for doing all the riding I can is that I have watched friends along the years say they are going to travel when they retire.. Several have passed on already and some have health issues that won't allow them to travel... They are spending it on medical bills.. I know this will come to an end someday, so I am having all the fun I can, and that is riding my bikes around our country.. I told my kids to get a good education and a good job.. I am spending their inheritance one gallon of gas at a time..
So I recommend enjoying your life now, before its too late !!

Allen.... Will ride for food !
