Its time for some landspeed stuff out at el-mirage dry lake and we are headed out there for the weekend. The group consisted of 5 guys that got out there midday saturday we will call them the early crew. The rest of us (8 bikes) headed out in the evening.
The rest of the gang left the Orange County area at 7ish, As we were to be camping that night on the lake bed we loaded up the bikes (bonnies, thruxtons, scramblers and one weirdo on a tiger). At 15 miles from HQ one of the guys was on a scrambler in the fast lane of the 91 FWY and failed to properly strap down his sleeping bag properly. Well it fell off and sucked into the rear wheel and ended up locking it up and comming to a screeching halt. Amazingly he kept it up and the bag was pulled out of the swingarm. We got to the lake bed after that time consuming issue and picking up another rider, we got there around 10-10:30 AT NIGHT. It should of taken only an hour and a half at the most but being the desert at night and no moon in the sky it was pitch black and the lake is 10 miles long so we promptly got lost.
Thank god for cell phones, the early crew finally came to the entrance and we followed them to the campsite. Time to drink away the longest time ive spent going the shortest distance EVER!
The next morning we all awoke to roaring engines and dust flying from the 200 MPH cars and bikes roaring down the track.
Some of us not as fresh as others.
Some time in the early afternoon it was that sad time that ultimately means we gotta go home. As we all packed up and cleaned our little corner of the lake up we all left as 1 group and had to make the long trek back across that big flat dust bowl that is EL-MIRAGE LAKE BED.
