Talking Vermont Ride Ideas

Gonna do my first ride from Ontario down to Killington VT,thought that route 100 south looked good.On the way back up I was going to to go thru the middle of the mountain range along routes 28N.....30N and Route 3N.
Would love to run up some mountain roads to maybe a lookout or seneic stop for some classic pic's of me and my ride.
Any idea's from anyone who may have done a ride similar in this area or better yet someone from the area.?

Just did a ride last week from Hershey,PA to Amsterdam, NY (overnighter with old buddy), then to Vermont. Took route 100 just past Killington ski area all the way to Morrisville, then thru Hardwick went to campground east of Barton, VT for a few nights with another friend. Homeward I took I-91 to Whitewater Junction, and route 4 I think back to Rutland and into NY state. Absolutely great riding in Vermont! Route 100 was very scenic and serene. It did my soul good. Can't comment on the other routes you mentioned, but I'd bet they are great! I did discover that a T-100 is not a perfect tour bike with its limited range/gas capacity (started looking for gas at 100 miles) and I had my Ikon shocks setting a little stiff, but I'd do it again for sure.

Thanks for the reply......sounds like you had a great ride.Your route was east of mine from what I see on the trusty map. I can't wait to go.Until then I will log in a few weekend rides with the brother on his Duc,gonna take in the Vintage race days at Mosport Ontario, always good for a day out.

Hey there,

I just returned from a trip through there last week. What a spot Vermont is! We rode from Nova Scotia throught NB, Maine, NH, Vt, up to Montreal and home.

Route 100 is a very nice ride. We took a few notches on the way up to Quebec. Lincoln Gap from Warren to Lincoln is crazy, but does have a few sections of gravel. We were told to ride Route 17 (from Bristol to Waitsfield) in the east direction - another amazing ride. Another super amazing ride is up Smugglers Notch on Mt. Mansfield. The top is a very narrow road with large boulders along the sides - just silly riding!

You really have to hold on to the bars on these rides!

If you're camping, the state parks outside of Killington (Gilford Woods), and on Smugglers Notch are very nice. The lean-to's are $27.00 and are so large you don't need a tent ( and they're waterproof).

We rode Route 2 through the Champlain Islands. It looked nicer on the map. It was an ok ride, maybe I expected better.

Also, the beer is pretty good too! Try the Long Trail brewery. I kinda liked the blueberry wheat.

I've come to the conclusion that there are no bad roads in Vermont.

Have a great ride.

We were heading back yesterday and we avoided the Lincoln Gap because we had a "apprentice" who didn't wanted to do gravel so we took other roads getting back to Qc from Lake Georges... How bad is it about the gravel and how long!? We've done several roads like 73-53-125-17-108 but avoided the Lincoln Gap
