ROT Rally 2008

All,

I'm new to R.A.T., having converted due to the world's worst (and I mean that sincerely) motorcycle service department (thread on that to follow). My fellow Rocket III owner (bought same day) and seven other local riders plan to be in Austin for the ROT 2008 on June 12-15. Three of us were there last year, and can attest that it beats Daytona (either one) hands down.

Any other RAT members planning to attend? If so, perhaps a RAT Nest at the fairgrounds one night? RV slots go up for reservations 1 Jan and are gone by the end of the day. Just planning ahead.

Cheers!

Wow, I'd have thought Daytona would be much better than the Austin event. Our group typically rides to a classic and antique Euro bike show on Sunday of the ROT weekend. Be sure and post up once your plans are set. We'd love to meet up with you.

I'm not going to ROT, but I plan on going to Anti-ROT

We shouldn't call it the anti-rot. Roadrunners were doing this long before the cruisers hit town. The Austin RATs have been meeting in Georgetown, or other points north for breakfast, then a long sweep back to Ski Shores.

Last time, I got us lost and made for an interesting ride, but a painful slab back into Austin to catch the show. Be sure and post up when your getting into town. We'd be happy to change our breakfast meetup somewhere out east and split the difference with a Houston group.

Enjoyed meeting you at the RAID. Lets ride again soon.

Do they have racing there? That's the reason to go to Daytona... lest we forget it's actual roots... ;-)

I actually had to go look it up. I thought all Daytona was about was racing. If your not into that aspect, ROT in Austin probably is more fun. Not to mention the adventure of a road trip.

There was a "Non-Official" Anti-ROT Rally a couple of years ago on someones land out in the Bastrop area. There was a thread on TWT about it.

This link pretty much explains it:
http://ratbike.org/texas04.php

Funniest quote off the page:
The R.A.T. Anti-Rally is a response to the large, similarly named rally which takes place in Austin, TX every year. I, the founder, chief organizer and He Who Shall Avoid All Blame Should Anything Go Wrong, am sick of seeing thousands of overweight yuppies trailer their off-the-shelf custom bikes hundreds of miles so that they can then ride ten miles to 6th street at 5 miles an hour, burning up their clutches and overheating their engines in the process.
