Resevoir Dogs
This ride explores the lakes and resevoirs of Westchester County. It's a shorter route, with total time on the bike under three hours (not including rest stop(s)). While we do go through some towns, the majority of the route consists of country roads with twists, turns, a few hills, and some nice lake scenery.
Here's the route. It looks complicated, but actually is confined to a pretty small area, and there are major highways everywhere nearby.
Start: Branchvile Motors, Rt. 7 at Rt. 102
Rt. 102 west to Rt. 35
Rt. 35 west to Rt. 22. We go right on 22
Rt. 22 north to Rt. 116, towards Salem Center
Rt. 116 or Rt. 138 east to Rt. 121, North Salem
Rt. 121 north to Rt. 22. Note, we go left on Rt. 6 for a short distance, then turn right onto Rt. 22
Rt. 22 north to Rt. 312, which is a left turn
Rt. 312 west to Rt. 6, towards Tilly Foster
Rt. 6 west, through Mahopac, to Rt. 118, a left turn
Rt. 118 south joins Rt. 202
Rt. 118 south to Rt. 129, in Yorktown Heights
Rt. 129 west to Croton on Hudson and Rt. 9A south. Note:
not Rt. 9; stay to the left
Rt. 9A south to Rt. 134, a left turn
Rt. 134 east joins Rt. 100
Rt. 100 north to Rt. 35
Rt. 35 back east to Connecticut.
Somewhere around Yorktown Heights or Croton on Hudson we should look for a place to grab a coffee break. I just traveled this exact route a couple of days ago. The scenery was great, terrific autumn colors still, but I didn't see any place to stop. However, some of the Westchester Beemer Motorcyclists should be joining us, and they may know a good spot.
We should expect chilly weather and dress accordingly--I'll be wearing my rainsuit because it's great at keeping out the wind. We're starting an hour later, also, at
9:30 am. Please remember to arrive with a full tank of gas! And it might be a good idea to print out these directions, and bring your own map too.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it. Take a short Veteran's Day ride with us and come explore some nice riding country! And after all--who else in America can say their resevoirs are pretty much full right now...?
See you then!
