Oh, come on...the roads should be, uh...nice and clean, maybe?--by then? I understand the British refuse to ride unless it's at least drizzling. Can we dare any less...?

I'll be there in any event, with rain gear if necessary--but if it's pouring, I'll secretly be wishing no one else shows up.

Just putting my cards on the table, there...

Nice seeing you guys too, hope you had a good time at the event.

Hey Mike, Did I meet you this summer on a ride with Charlie Coe and Martin? You have an Orange Tiger? I'm Matt-I had a Red America. I just traded it in for a '07 Tiger. I'll try to get there this weekend. Got to keep the revs under 6000 for a while!

Hey Matt! Yep, that was me--tough to lose this thing in the crowd, that's for sure. Welcome to the world of Tigering. :-) Be fun to see you tomorrow, Tigers like company too.

Mike I will try and get there. If it's too cold I'll have to take a pass. Don't have my heated grips in yet and my clothes are a bit lacking too. I did a 125 mile ride this afternoon and it was cold. I'll give it a try though.

After-ride report

Yes, it was cold.

On the other hand, we had sun for most of the morning, and not very much traffic at all. For much of the route prior to Goshen we had long stretches of curvy road and autumn scenery pretty much to ourselves. Branchfield Motors got us started off with coffee & donuts again (thanks Jim!) and these sustained us until our stop in Litchfield.

I also have to mention the hardy riders of the Westchester Beemer Motorcycle Club who showed up early and enjoyed the day. As some of you know I've been thinking about a tour around the lakes & resevoirs of Westchester County for our November ride, and the WBMC have some good routes there; so it's highly likely our last "formal" ride of the year will be coordinated with them.

So, thanks again to everyone who came out, and to Branchville for starting us out with treats...and I'm looking forward to November and to meeting still more of you!

Mike, I went out about 2. Things warmed up by then. I need some insulated clothes if I'm going to ride this fall!

Last Planned Ride of 2007: Nov. 11, 9:30 am

Sunday, November 11th (Veteran's Day) at 9:30 am

Resevoir Dogs

This ride explores the lakes and resevoirs of Westchester County. It's a shorter route, with total time on the bike under three hours (not including rest stop(s)). While we do go through some towns, the majority of the route consists of country roads with twists, turns, a few hills, and some nice lake scenery.

Here's the route. It looks complicated, but actually is confined to a pretty small area, and there are major highways everywhere nearby.

Start: Branchvile Motors, Rt. 7 at Rt. 102
Rt. 102 west to Rt. 35
Rt. 35 west to Rt. 22. We go right on 22
Rt. 22 north to Rt. 116, towards Salem Center
Rt. 116 or Rt. 138 east to Rt. 121, North Salem
Rt. 121 north to Rt. 22. Note, we go left on Rt. 6 for a short distance, then turn right onto Rt. 22
Rt. 22 north to Rt. 312, which is a left turn
Rt. 312 west to Rt. 6, towards Tilly Foster
Rt. 6 west, through Mahopac, to Rt. 118, a left turn
Rt. 118 south joins Rt. 202
Rt. 118 south to Rt. 129, in Yorktown Heights
Rt. 129 west to Croton on Hudson and Rt. 9A south. Note: not Rt. 9; stay to the left
Rt. 9A south to Rt. 134, a left turn
Rt. 134 east joins Rt. 100
Rt. 100 north to Rt. 35
Rt. 35 back east to Connecticut.

Somewhere around Yorktown Heights or Croton on Hudson we should look for a place to grab a coffee break. I just traveled this exact route a couple of days ago. The scenery was great, terrific autumn colors still, but I didn't see any place to stop. However, some of the Westchester Beemer Motorcyclists should be joining us, and they may know a good spot.

We should expect chilly weather and dress accordingly--I'll be wearing my rainsuit because it's great at keeping out the wind. We're starting an hour later, also, at 9:30 am. Please remember to arrive with a full tank of gas! And it might be a good idea to print out these directions, and bring your own map too.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it. Take a short Veteran's Day ride with us and come explore some nice riding country! And after all--who else in America can say their resevoirs are pretty much full right now...?

See you then!

)i guys. There's both a Starbucks and a diner right in Yorktown Heights just a quick jog off of 118 but you're also not too far from Grandma's Pies on Route 202 north towards the Bear Mtn Pkwy. Rt 202 is wretched and trafficclogged riding, though.

Mattf301- heated gear! I picked up a jacket liner & gloves at Branchville a few years ago and I no longer fear the cold. The hook up stays tucked in the crevasse under my tank until I need it. I wish I could wear the stuff when I'm NOT on my bike.

I'd like to make the Veteran's Day ride but I'll have to see. Very glad to see a RAT pack out of Branchville.
