If the referendum on Manchester's congestion charge results in a yes vote, the headlines will be:

"When people understand the argument, they vote for congestion charges"

And we will see this rolled out across the country very quickly. Several other areas are waiting for the result before pushing forward with their own schemes.

I can't believe that almost 40% of respondents support the introduction of congestion charging. Perhaps these folks already use public transport?
If the funds raised were used to offset Council Taxes then the issue would be worth debating....Fat chance.
Soon every large city or town will be on the bandwagon and another stealth tax will exist. We already have a form of congestion charge in the shape of exhorbitant parking charges.
