I have a 2006 Thruxton, all I've ever used is the Mobile One that the factory recomends. But it's high dollar and not available everywhere. The manual REQUIRES fully or semi-synthetic, 10W-40 or15W-50 weight, meeting API grade SH OR HIGHER and JASO MA. The JASO MA means that there are no friction modifiers that will cause your clutch plates to slip. There should be plenty of brands that meet these specs., assuming that API specs. are used throughout the world. I found out that when the specs. are upgraded by a letter ( the S stands for spark ignition, so it's the second letter that is upgraded ), the higher spec. letter is just added after the original spec. designation, ( eg. 15W-50, SH/SJ JASO MA ).I hope this helps you find the right oil; I don't know what brands are available in the U.K. Myself, I'm going with Amsoil 20W-50 in my next oil change, it's a bit cheaper, more available, and the Amsoil company claims that you can double the change interval with a only a filter change at the normal 6000 mile interval or one year whichever comes first. This will work for me, as I only run just over 6000 miles a year in the first place.

Thanks for the reply TT,just been thumbing through the hein gericke catalogue for oil,i have used 10w/40 semi synthetic on all my previous bikes which corresponds to API SG : JASO MA and then compared this to the 10w/50 fully synthetic which also has the same spec, which is the one to go for ,there is a 50% difference in the price ,from what i have read a lot of info on fully synthetic for the longer intervals when replacing it ,but as i change the oil and filters on my bikes mid way through the manufacturers recommendation would it be a false economy buying fully synthetic ?

Other Motorcycle: anything I can get.
probably no real help as I ride a Daytona, but I use putolene fully synthetic, even triumph dealers are not using the triumph recommended stuff now dure to the extortionate cost.

Yep i agree there ,bloody dear ! H/G are doing their own fully synthetic brand at £21.99 for 4 ltrs. which is a bit more palatable .

I will be doing oil & filter changes every 4000 miles,as i use the bike for work as well as pleasure this will be coming around quite quick,so the silkolene is a bit of a meaty price to use .I will probably go for the hein gericke fully synthetic,it seems fully synth is the way people are going with the triumph, has anyone experienced clutch slip using it ?
