Count yourself lucky - I just re-registered my bike in Germany and the plates over here make the UK plates look positively tiny. Over here there's bugger all you can do about it, because the local council has to see your plates after they are printed to put a couple of stickers on them. Ah well, at least I can say I've got air brakes fitted now.

They will just throw the 'Anti Terrorism Act' at you. Saying it is needed so number plate recognition systems can read them. That and speed cameras and 'yabba dabba doos'

But I'll sign anyway.

welcome to my county, glad you liked it the riding is fantastic and road casualties are not that different to anywhere else, just watch the crap on the roads due to tractors and stuff, give me a shout if your coming back especially if you get up to Cadwell as I marshal there most weekends.

Wink

Thanks Doodle. That'd be good. I actually just got back from a round trip ride to Edinburgh (from Sussex) on my Bonneville, so I'm absolutely done in. Passed through Lincolnshire again but by that point my right hand had turned into a numbed, metal claw-like thing that I couldn't feel at all. Those high winds we had this weekend made riding quite mad as well. I was glad of my (illegal) smaller number plate, otherwise I'd have been blown out to sea!

Beast, nice bike (and plate). Don't you get pulled over with that?

All the best.

Bu66er it. Got me a ticket tonight on the way home for my (tbh ridiculously) small plate. £30 but no points so could have been worse

I guess 5x23cm is just *too* small

Now, do I change it for the box lid I got with the bike, get the smallest legal plate I can or leave it on (I've managed 3000 miles with this one so far)?

Andy

Bad luck Andy. 5 x 23 cm is a tad small mate, unless you start riding a monkey bike, but even then it'd probably still be 'illegal' to have anything smaller than 9 x 7". £30 over 3000...that's, what, one pence a mile? Any pictures of your plate?

All the best.

just signed the petition, it's about time there was a review of the number plate size and style, out dated and horrible,
can anyone answer this. is a plate that lies flat against the rear fender/mudguard legal in the uk? as I want to change my 9"x7" windsail for a smaller size
