great little ride

yesterday I had a great little ride out through the lakes with my mate. He doesnt ride a Triumph, but I dont hold that against him, especially as he is much cheaper and more accurate than a tom tom when it comes to knowing great routes.

Route started in Gateshead and we went through the local back roads to Hexham.

From there we aimed for Alston taking in the striking views (fog) on the top of Hartside.

From there we headed to Egremont, down to Gosforth and then across the national park past Wass Water, Ullswater, Coniston taking in the spectacular Hard Knot Pass (not for those afraid of heights or bends).

Traffic picked up a bit through Windemere so we switched track and headed to Brough were we headed across the moors to Middleton in Teesedale and then up through Crook heading back home.

Fantastic little trip of about 270 ish miles. Took about 7 hours riding but that was largely due to the traffic in the lakes on the bank holiday.

Still a great ride out.

Regards

Dave

I haven't been to that part of the UK yet. It's on my to do list.
Wass Water was nominated as one of Britain's favourite views on that TV prog recently.

Sounds like a good days riding. I have a request though. Bring a camera next time.

I pick my new bike up on Sat, and am kind of hoping to persuade the GF's father (rides a Pan, and very skilled) to scoot up to the lakes on Sun, weather permitting.

The GF and her mother will tootle up in the car, and we'll all have lunch/dinner and a wander round to make sure I keep them on side

The Lakes is, IMHO, one of the best places in the country. I spent 2 summers in Keswick working as an outdoor activities instructor and loved every minute in the place. I visit as often as I can (bit of a climber you see), and it never ceases to amaze me that we have such an outstanding place in this little country...

Might take this route as a starter for the weekend, although with a shiny new bike I might miss out Hard Knott Pass...

You're very lucky to be so near the Lakes, Andy, I envy you. I'm on my second ride-out on Sept 9. It's to the Nene Valley and I'm really looking forward to it.

Joe

Actually I'm not that close. Much closer than you though!

It's about 90 miles from here (Northwich, central Cheshire) to Kendal, so a trip round the lakes will probably be near 300 all up. Well worth it I reckon

The Nene valley is a nice part of the world too - enjoy your ride!

Be sure to let me know where you are going, I pick my new speedy up this sat morning.
I also live in wisbech (a gnats knacker from the nene valley) so we could maybe meet and ahve a quick beer.

Hey Yoshi

Are you finding the wait as hard as I am?
Sorted all the docs out and had another look at mine today (being admired by a group of fellas, which is always nice. One has a test on the Street Triple booked for next week. Told him he'd love it). Really good to see the SOLD sticker on the lights!

Oh well - only 3 days 10 hours and some minutes to go...

Yep strugling like hell, hoping for good weather on sat so that I can do the 500 miles run in< then off to France on it monday pm after the first service. Cant wait to jump on board, have been back to the dealers nearly everyday since I placed the order. Good luck to you and I hope the weather is favourable in your neck of the woods. Ian

Just checked the forecast and it's (in theory) set for sunny intervals and 19deg, so fine weather for collection

Going up on the Pan with the GFs father, then out for an easy breaking-in ride for the day. Is the first service at 500m? Not looked into that yet, but having seen the instructions on the tank it looks like a long 1000 before I can give it some welly...

Praying for a dry week next week (not working atm), and clear service spots at the dealer!
