Exeter to Aberdeen and Back

Hello,

I'm fairly new to this forum and new to Triumphs but thought I'd ask for a bit of advice. The wife is going away for a week or so so I thought I'd pop up and see a mate in Aberdeen and rather than fly I thought I'd use the bike (Sprint 900) for what is was designed for and take a few days to travel up and see a bit of the country on the way.

Can anybody suggest some "must" do roads that I could put together and build a route between the Exeter and Aberdeen. Also are there any decent bike roads around Aberdeen that I could disappear out on a day trip.

Cheers

Hello Taffgmg, as you're starting from Exeter why not ride the Fosse Way. I use the section from Cirencester up past Warwick quite a lot. It's a nice route and not as straight as you would expect from a Roman road

I've just come back from Scotland,I used the A68 from the borders through Nothumberland and County Durham.Nice road bendy and up and down, great fun.Simply the most amazing road was the Hawick to A68 road (A6088) that runs through Bonchester Bridge.Absolutly wow!Great road, great scenery.
I agree with previous comments about the Fosse excelant road, used it many times myself.
Which ever way you go it should be a great ride.Have fun.

+1

I live in Edinburgh but hail from Durham. That's the route I take to get down to visit my family. You could also jump on the A7 and use that to get to Edinburgh via St Marys Loch if you're after a detour!

Watch out for mobile cameras (and fixed) on the A68, mostly the Scottish side of the border for fixed but I've seen mobiles on both sides.

I did the St Marys loch road from Moffat, turning off to go towards Roberton.I was camped a Roberton and rode diffrent roads most days. Just superb, and very varied terrain.

when you get up to edinburgh cross over the fourth bridge and head east along the A909 and join the A92 and folow it all the way up the coast to Aberfreeze.
When your up here for a short run take the south deeside road B9077 to the junction wth the slug road A957 and turn right and folow it all the way to stonehaven (past my hoose as you enter stoney) and headto the harbour or beach and hey a wee streach o the legs before heading up the Netherly road B979 back to the south deeside and back into town. there are plenty of good roads to choose from if you want to go further but the ones to avoidare A90 as its dual carageway and the A96 as itsthe main road to Inverness and is usualy busy.
Enjoy your stay up here Tim
P.S. there are usualy ride outs posted at http://www.aberdeenbikers.co.uk/abportal/index.php if you want pm me if you want to log in
