Took the bikes with a group by French Motorail from Calais to Frejus (Cannes). From our experience - don't risk it unless prepared. Firstly the workers take ages to load the bikes on and off at the other end - they have no idea how to tie the bikes down on the carriages - we were expecting ratchet straps as per the ferries, they used lengths of packing tape with the result one of the bikes was down and damaged at the end of the journey. Secondly there is no security - the train stops at Avignon at 5.00am and my experience was a thief opening my cabin door (locked from inside) with a key! Being a suspicious b*****d I challenged him and he made quick exit. Unfortunately he had already been next door and nicked a mates wallet. The plus side is waking up next morning on the med!

Other Motorcycle: anything I can get.
Thanks for the warning, I always take a rachet strap of my own, but the security thing is something to remember.

Use German Motorail. Much Much Better. Proper straps and no long overnight stops.
