Does anyone know what the fuel/rest stops are like at Ullapool and north and west of there? I was up there many years ago and the scenery was as wild as it gets but forget what the support is like.

Cheers.

Fuel stops are few & far between, I've been going up on bike for last 5 years in May for pre 65 trial at Kinlochleven. Been up round Ullapool, Plockton, Applecross etc quite a bit, the roads are great, but I would fill up at every opportunity.
Not sure where you're setting off from, but Dorrington Lodge at Tigh-Phuirt near Glencoe is a good place to stop on the way up.
I've done a bit of touring on East coast as well, Findhorn near Forres is another beautifull place.

Ullapool is a great place to base yourself if you intend exploring the far northwest. There's quite a good selection of hotels and B&Bs. A Shell filling station is located there too, see photo below. I don't know your tank range or intended route but fill up here! There's a BP at Durnes 70 miles north of Ullapool on the north coast, and further east at Bettyhill (about 110 miles from Ullapool) and plenty fuel at Thurso. Just take care you fill up Saturday evening as some stations don't open Sunday, and as LL says top-up at every opportunity.

Have a good trip

Thanks for the info , LL and Chris.
I agree about the findhorn area and the B9007 NE of Aviemore is one of my favorite roads, not that I get up there often enough. Yes sundays can be a problem. On an S4 I've managed about 90 miles on around half a tank at sensible cruising speeds based on refilling litres but have never chanced much longer without a stop just incase
Being in central scotland, I could probably do the whole loop in a one'r but to actually enjoy it needs an overnight or two.

Too far in either direction and you'll get wet.

There's a nice cafe in Scourie but I can't remember whether there's petrol there aswell. I did a day trip on a circular route from Inverness, through Tongue, Ullapool, etc as part of a week long holiday in Scotchland. The scenery is like nothing else - stunning. Pics are here if you're interested. Got to go back north sometimes - great place.

Cheers,

Greg

..... week long holiday in Scotchland...

presumably a country where they like Scotch? Maybe I can get there by riding through Southern Scotland, I think they call it Englandshire.....

You would know better than I! I went pretty close to the Dredour distillery at Pitlochrie, but didn't quite make it. Was going to pick up a bottle of something for a Scottish friend but didn't quite have the time.

A beautiful country you have. I commend it to the house.
