Hi I'm going to look at a TT600 tomorrow, hoping to part exchange my 1200 bandit for it, and was just wondering if anyone has any advice for things to look out for? I've always ridden bandits since I passed my test, 1st a 600 now the 1200 so the TT is going to be a bit of a change!

The model I'm looking at is a 2002 model, has done almost 16k, priced up at £2999 which seems reasonable

thanks for any advice

Have a good long test ride, in ALL types of traffic. You will need to work the engine and clutch alot more than on your 1200 Bandit. Saying that, I went from a number of large cc (900, 1200, 800, 1200, 900 ) bikes to the TT and have not looked back, great fun to ride, always get off it with a great big grin! If you have a race can for your Bandit, take it off before part ex, it may fit the TT. Also they changed the service intervals from every 4k to every 6k, you may be about due a 16k which is a biggie, valves and everything!
Your own choice of course, but I am now re-converted to smaller sports bikes, next stop a 675!

I agree with Teach. A long test ride, and definitely make sure it involves traffic. As you probably know, both the Speed Four and TT600 have been slated for low end fuelling. Whilst I don't find it a problem (I find my S4 great in traffic), you might, especially coming from a 1200.

I've never ridden anything bigger than my S4, but I'd expect it to be lithe and sure-footed ... and you'll be wanting to rev it a lot harder than your Bandit.

Price-wise, do yourself a national Autotrader search and print off all the cheaper ones with similar or less miles. Makes for excellent bargaining.

£3K doesn't sound like the greatest deal for a 2002 model with 16K on the clock. I'd guess at 2000-2500 depending on the condition etc.,

Here's a couple of easy things to check which will also help give the impression you know a bit about the TT:

1) The swing arm rubbing strip can wear quickly especially if the bike has a 14 tooth front and 42 tooth rear sprocket. Check the strip on the top of the swing arm for thickness. Triumph changed to bigger 15 front and 45 rear on newer models to reduce the wear.

2) There was a fuel connector recall a year ago. You won't be able to check it's been done yourself so ask the seller if it's been done - there should be an invoice from the dealer that did the recall work.

Good luck!

thanks for all the advice guys Eventually managed to knock it down a lot and get a bargain trade-in deal so I collect it next Saturday. It feels great compared to the heavy bandit 1200, but it's gonna take a while to learn to ride it properly!

it's absolutely immaculate, seemed like the right bike for me
