There I was on the way home the other afternoon riding the TBS when I came up to two cars behind a Wiseman Milk artic ( the ones that are painted black and white, that supposed to represent a cow, yer right). They were all doing about 45mph on a 60mph road (country road) so I dropped down a gear, checked mirror, there was a bikes headlight 75-100 yards behind me. No problem thinks me and overtakes the two cars and artic in one pass, easy peasy, nice and clean. Before I had pulled in the other bike passed me like I was stationary, it was a Duke, two up both wearing helmets tee shirts, shorts and trainers. I looked at my speedo it was on 70, they must have been 110 +.
I knows hot out there but for f**** sake that is just stupid. If they had an off they wouldn't be picking up the pieces, they'd be hosing them off the road.

Steam vented

Phil

I know where you are coming from. I cringe when i see numpties riding bikes without a bike jacket and long trousers at least.

I spotted a bloke on a GSXR 1000 at the weekend, hurtling up the M6 at 100+ in vest, shorts and trainers

Yep i saw a numpty on a fireblade on the M66 in shorts and t-shirt doing a decent speed .

I just hope they have a small spill and learn from it and not a big nasty one that needs skin grafts or a wooden overcoat !!!

I could not agree more, I had a head on with a car driver on an R6, he decided to overtake straight into my path 3 years ago. I was wearing full leathers and got away with a broken leg PINS ect and numb patches on my knee hand and ankle. Both the ambulance staff and police could not believe I had got away with what I did , but said that with no leathers boots ect I would have def lost my leg or ended up in a body bag. THESE things are made for a reason .

i couldnt agree with you guys more. it really cheeses me off when i see people out on their bikes with no protective clothing on but their helmets. they may think they look cool etc and i suppose they do but you must always think about being knocked off and the concequencies. i especially feel for pillion riders, usually women who have sandals on with skirts and tee shirts. im sorry but i find this irresponcible on the riders be half.

Earlier this week there was a bike on bike accident down this way two guys both on big bikes one jumped a red light and torpedoed the other. Both apparently were wearing T shirts. And here's me thinking that people who ride around like that take extra care cos of the consequences, apparently not.

The hot weather has got em out in droves, but as with everthing you pays your money to takes your chance I always weay solid bike gear, but I don't judge, its to easy to go down the freedom of choice route, all I will say is grafts hurt like hell!

Most are familiar with Charles Darwin -"natural selection." Natural selection acts to preserve and accumulate minor advantageous genetic mutations. Suppose a member of a species developed a functional advantage (it grew wings and learned to fly). Its offspring would inherit that advantage and pass it on to their offspring. The inferior (disadvantaged) members of the same species would gradually die out, leaving only the superior (advantaged) members of the species.

So Ive got my boots, stout leather pants, jacket, armour, gloves, lid and errrrmm one more thing -- my hydration pack!!! gasp need a sit down b4 i get out of the house.

I picked up an Alpinestars Textile Stunt Air-Flo Jacket in the sales a couple of years back and it's superb for summer riding.

Well ventilated with great protection :upthumb:
Absolutely ideal for commuting and leisure riding but I still stick with zip together leathers for when I'm doing more spirited riding............
